Disclaimer: I don't own Buffy.
AN: I was never really a fan of Buffy/Xander but this idea kinda just floated into my head. Oneshot.
Morning Meditation
Alexander "Xander" Harris walked into the school at 7:00 in the morning. The halls were desolate. Arriving an hour before school normally started was not something usually on his agenda, but for about a month he had found himself often waking earlier than usual. Bored he decided to arrive at school earlier; it often gave him time to think about what has been causing the sudden restlessness.
To be honest he knew what was causing it. It had started the same week she showed up to school. The day they met he knew she was different. She was amazing, funny, strong and intelligent. She was superhuman and not just because of her slayer powers. Buffy. She had been haunting him. Only Willow knew about his dilemma. She said he should just take a chance on her. But it seemed that every time he tried, something would get in the way of his asking her out. Angel, Cordelia, the End of the World, etc.
He took out a folded piece of paper from his khaki pants. He had spent the night writing down everything. He unfolded the creased paper and started to read.
Dear Buffy,
I know this may be a corny way to show you how I feel but it seems that every other time I try something gets in the way. I have liked you since the first moment I've seen you walking into the building. I remember it vividly because I skated into a railing. I enjoy every moment I spend with you, even if half the time we're fighting for our lives. I really like you and I hope that one day you can see me as I see you.
I hope this doesn't change our friendship, but I think it's important that you know how I feel.
Your Friend Always,
Xander
Xander folded the paper back up as he continued to walk the hallways which were now starting to fill up. He stopped by at the locker he had been looking for. He looked back at the crumpled and folded paper in his hands contemplating whether or not to follow through with his plans. As much as he wanted to let Buffy know how he felt he didn't want to destroy the relationship they already had.
"Hey Xand, what's up?" he heard a voice say behind him as he turned and looked at his two best friends, Willow and Buffy.
"Yeah are you feeling okay? It's like against the law for you to be here before us, or at least me. Because I'm me and I'm schooly and stuff," Willow babbled on.
"Yeah I'm fine guys," he said cutting Willow off, "Just woke up on time this morning, I guess," he laughed.
"Most likely a first and last," Buffy joked as she grabbed a textbook from her locker and shut it, "Hey whatcha got there?" she asked him referring to the crumpled paper in his hand.
"Eh, it's nothing, just a reminder to take the dinner out when I get home for my mom," he said shoving the note back into his pocket. Buffy just shrugged and grabbed Willow to talk about last nights slaying. He watched her go walking away, still only a friend. Hopefully one day that would change but for now he just jogged to catch up with them and face another day.
