Hello people me again with another one-shot. I'm dedicating this one to moonmagicks for graciously asking me to make this. I was more then happy to oblige.
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the Inuyasha characters. :'( sniff
He Looked Back
The rain droned on. Her feet pounded on the damp forest floor. Her pursuer glided gracefully behind her. Taunting her. Daring her to try and get away. He knew it was inevitable. No one ever got away he made sure of that. This, this was just a game to him. Cat and mouse. The mouse never lasted long before it tired.
She stumbled in to a clearing. The will to go on diminishing as she gasped for breath and her legs trembled from the strain of running for so long. She wasn't ready to die, not yet. Not when she had so much more to do. Tears pricked her eyes when she heard him step through the foliage. His foot steps brought him up behind her.
"Rin." He whispered in her ear. It sent shivers down her spine. "Run." Like a bullet she was off again. The branches and vines from the forest felt like claws against her skin slowing her down and leaving scratches in their wake. Blood seeped through the cuts on her legs and feet. The pain was unbearable but she couldn't stop. She was almost there. The village lights gleamed up ahead and the barrier around it would keep out even the most powerful demons. It was less then a mile. She would make it!
A flash of lightning filled the sky and he was in front of her. Her shrill scream filled the night air as she skidded to a halt in front of him. His face held a self satisfied smirk. The long dagger he held in his hand glinted as another flash of lightening filled the sky. Amber eyes burned into brown. He processed the emotions in her eyes. Fear, desperation, and hopelessness were all evident in her expression. Something else was there too. Something he'd never seen before, well at least not directed toward him. Love. She loved him, a killer, a mercenary, a person who had no feelings.
He leaned forward "Rin. Loving me was a mistake." With a quick upward thrust the dagger sunk into her skin. Never before had she experienced such pain. Blood spurted from her mouth as she coughed. Breathing was becoming harder, and darkness was creeping at the edge of her vision. His hand still on the hilt of the dagger lodged in her chest. Crimson liquid flowed down the blade and over his hand before staining ground. Her hand covered his."That's ...that's what you think Sesshomaru." Was all she said before slumping forward taking her last breath of life before becoming still.
He held her for a moment more before pulling out his weapon and cleaning it on the grass. He walked away and for the first time since he started his job ... he looked back.
