Disclaimer: I do not own Kingdom Hearts, for if I did, we all know who would win. ;)

Author's Notes: This was a piece I wrote for a roleplay. Essentially Xemnas experiences his death, and yet finds himself wholly alive once more. Nothing more than a drabble for here, but just thought I might share.

Nothingness

No experiment could of truly prepared him for nothingness, to feel his body fading, each wound caused by the damned keybearer searing his flesh. The wretched voices of those heathens shouting spells, tossing potions; each sound grated his nerves, unable to even have the slightest respite before death destroyed what little remained. Xemnas was resigned to his fate, each order he had given, every member of his Organization XIII stolen. The sheer knowledge of his own failure had slowed the agile Superior's step. His very downfall was his own undoing, yet he could not bear to regret. Bereft of emotions, he could feel the power draining from his weapons, what little energy that could be gathered striving to mend the impossible.

Burnt orange had faded to a golden hue, darkness slowly encompassing his sight. This was not meant to be his end, death was not the fate in which any Nobody should suffer. Despite his truly pretentious ways, Xemnas wanted only to be whole. Such was the ploy, to grow powerful in order to regain their hearts. To feel, how could this desire be seen as true evil?

And that was precisely what had fueled his hatred to the wayward Somebodies, wasting such precious hearts. The Nobody gasped softly, finally feeling the coldness against his tanned flesh. Even as his thoughts began to fail him, he fought the loss, yet not Nobody could thwart death.

Coughs wracked the Nobody, the simple rise and fall of his chest forcing each breath to be nothing more than a gasp. Every muscle voiced its complaint, unable to even rouse the slightest movement. Sluggish as the blood flowing through his veins, Xemnas' mind attempted to understand, to know how this present state was even possible. His memories felt as though each had fallen far from his reach, even recalling the most minute of facts was stressing. He nearly fumbled as his hands attempted to force his body upright. Even as he steadied his trembling form, he was unable to release his tight grip of the railing. Slowly he managed to gain better control of himself, finally daring to partake in the sight of his surroundings.

At first, he found no definition, only a cascading darkness. Yet, his efforts were not in vain, the presence of light steadily began to make itself known. Xemnas knew that familiar glow, he had spent countless hours contemplating with it studiously overhead.

"...K-kingdom... Hearts?" Nothing could of stopped the upturning of his chin, forlornly gazing at the manifestation of the recovered hearts. How was this even possible, death did not forgive one such as he. Yet even now he felt alive. And terribly alone.
