Downtime, Atlantis Style

Summary: After seeing the number of challenges going around recently, IceMenace and I had to challenge everyone as well! Our challenge: in a 300 word or less flash fiction, show two or more characters during downtime. All we ask is that you keep the rating below M; anything else is fair game!
Chapter 1: John and Rodney
For as long as he had known, Rodney had always loved Chess. His brain, smarter than anyone in two galaxies, allowed him to win every single match he had ever played except for one of them. For his own part, John was Mensa material and played a mean game of Chess. Of course Rodney normally beat him easily, but there was that one time when he had lost.
It had become their habit after missions to go for their medical exam, get cleaned up and then meet as a team in the mess hall for their Chess matches. They would all have lunch together and then Ronon and Teyla would each pick a teammate to support and the match would begin. Both were exceptionally skilled players and their games went on for hours as each pitted his skills against the other.
That fateful day, Sam decided to join them, and it was Rodney's undoing. Of course it wasn't entirely her fault but she was sitting right next to him, wearing a very nice dress. It was within Air Force standards of course; Sam was always by the book but for Rodney, he had never seen anything more beautiful. He was so entranced by her beauty that he stopped paying attention to the game at hand and played poorly. He was so out of it that he didn't even notice he had lost the game until John told him.
"Checkmate!"
"WHAT! But… how… I LOST?"
"Yep!" John replied with a grin and a wink, "You did."
