Title: Lies Behind a Smile
Summary: The last person Kate thought she would be was John Winchester and yet here he stood. One-shot
Disclaimer: Dang you Kripke! I have asked for Sam, Dean, John, Cas and/or Adam since 2005! I wished that I owned them but I don't. If I did, none of them would wear shirts, Sam would do my homework, Dean would fix my cars, John would entertain my little sister, Cas would clean my house and Adam would be my cuddle buddy! (I would share with you, of course, Demonic Hope!)
The last person Kate Milligan thought she would have run into in the small general store in Blue Earth, Minnesota was standing right in front of her. The dark wavy hair, mysterious dark eyes, and leather jacket made up the man the Kate had met just under a year ago. In fact, if she looked hard enough, she was sure she could see some of the scars of wounds she had stitched up.
John Winchester was just as aggravating now as he had been when he first dragged her willingly (or as she liked to think, unwillingly; his looks had drawn her in like some sort of incubus...) into his crummy hotel bed.
It wasn't in his words that he was aggravating, it was the fact that he couldn't keep his eyes off the beautiful two-and-a-half month-old she was carrying close to her heart. They made polite conversation until John asked the question that both of them knew he needed answered: "Is he yours?"
Kate held her breath for a moment before saying in a rushed voice, "No, I'm just baby-sitting for a friend while I'm in town."
She could almost see John's sigh of relief, and she could almost see the flash of regret in his dark eyes. They talked for a few moments longer until John made an excuse to leave. Kate could remember his exact words, but it had something about going to the church and getting his sons then he would be gone again.
Kate waved with one hand as the man who curse and blessed her poor excuse for a life. Calmly, and with a shaking, Kate Milligan put her chin on the sleeping baby's blond head and whispered, "Oh, Adam... If only he knew..."
Well, there you go! If you liked, review, if you hated, flame! Bonus points if you can tell me who lives in Blue Earth, Minnesota!
