My grandson, Spock, was helping me to weed the flowers in my garden when we heard a little sound of distress. We turned around and saw a tiny hummingbird securely caught within a spider's web! One of the largest spiders I've ever seen slid down to catch his prey but Spock managed to reach up and, just in the nick of time, snatch the tiny hummingbird away.
Although frightened from it's ordeal, the hummingbird did not struggle in Spock's hands but seemed to look up at him with trusting eyes. Spock carefully removed the sticky web from it's little wings and I marveled at the beauty God bestows on such a tiny little thing.
When Spock finished, it cocked its little head and gave him one last stare before taking flight. It circled above our heads, then flew away out of sight. What a brave grandson I have and so smart of him to save the hummingbird without killing the spider.
When I told him I thought he was a hero, he denied it and said he did the only logical option available to him. I smiled and we resumed our weeding of the flower garden.
