I love these two sooo much! I only wish they didn't hate each other...

Ah well. Obviously I don't own Naruto, if I did then my stories would be on TV! So, yeah. Enjoy :)

Stargazing, Uchiha Style

The two Uchihas look up at the stars almost every night. It is a habit that they've developed independently of each other, but it's something they share nonetheless. Even if they aren't aware of it.

Sasuke Uchiha does his star-gazing from the almost flat roof of his apartment in Konoha. He thinks about his team, Naruto (the loser) and Sakura (the fan-girl), and his sensei Kakashi. He thinks about his own training, and his constant, varied (and often harsh) plans for strengthening himself. He has a lot to think about, a busy, interesting life. But more often than not, his attention turns to his family, and his brother. He has admitted to himself finally, that what hurts him the most about the Uchiha Massacre (and he forces himself to think of it as that. He won't make things softer for himself.) is that it was his older brother who betrayed the clan. Who betrayed Sasuke himself.

"I looked up to you. I trusted you..."

He will never finish that thought. He banishes it to the back of his mind, not even consciously acknowledging it. If he were to carry on speaking, he would probably say, "I loved you." Or, on nights like tonight, when he feels particularly lonely, and he can't quite summon his avenger's anger, "I miss you". But he'll never allow himself to become aware of this, his most secret pain.

Itachi Uchiha watches the moon from the closest mountain to whatever Akatsuki base he's staying in. If he can't find a mountain, he settles for the tallest tree. He methodically identifies the moon's phase, then the main constellations, then any visible planets. He then searches out the faint, nameless stars. He gives them names. He calls this one "Sharingan", then this one "Samehada" (After Kisame's precious sword). He calls that faint one near Orion "Konoha", and he laughs at himself for doing so. He ignores the fact that in his heart, he calls all of them "Sasuke".

He mentally composes letters home. Each one follows the same pattern as the one before; they are all addressed to his little brother, they all begin with something like "I suppose you're still as weak as ever", and they all end with "I never had a choice." Every night he grapples with the idea of adding "I'm sorry", but every night he decides against it, before reminding himself that it's all academic – he'll never contact the village hidden in the leaves anyway, so what does it matter what he would or wouldn't say?

Perhaps it isn't so strange, that they both do this. Stars can't identify their innermost thoughts, dragging them into the light and forcing you to face them. Unlike some humans. Stars don't try to sympathize with your situation either. They don't try to comfort you. They don't brush you off. They don't hurt you. They don't get hurt.

All of these features appeal to the Uchiha brothers. Physically, they are as far apart as they could ever be. Miles and miles. But mentally, they sit together. Just like old times.

Yes, I know it's kind of a dumb idea, but my brain isn't at 100 this time of night. I'm literally writing this at twenty past midnight, so it's not very well proof read, but I just had to get it written tonight while I was feeling inspired! I hope you liked it, please review and maybe I'll check out and review some of your stories! (Yes I am resorting to bribery) Ok, bye for now XD
