"It's just a dream, it's just a dream, it's just a dream," she chanted, clutching at her tangled hair until her scalp was torn. It had to be a dream; she was insane. She squeezed her eyes shut and tried to block out the noise but when she opened her eyes Hatter was still there smiling a strange smile with strange gold eyes that weren't his. His smile melted from his face in a grotesque way and dropped to the floor where it leered up at her and started to chant, "Start wearing purple, wearing purple for me now."
Belle backed away as the wicked grin on the floor shrieked, all flashing teeth and bruising words. She tumbled backwards, her feet tangling in the strings of a thousand skeletal marionettes, their bones clacking together to echo with Hatter's mad voice "…wearing purple, wearing purple, wearing purple..."
She scrambled backwards, tumbling through darkness and bitter puppet strings that cut at her hands, her own pulse singing in time with the words until her skull split open and memories oozed out. She hung suspended like a fly in a web, Hatter's grinning teeth lurching towards her from overhead as she screamed. Maybe she'd always been screaming; she didn't know anymore.
Shrieks filled the air all around her, the web catching at her dress as she struggled, the fabric the same strange purple black color as dried blood. Fire bled from her heart and dripped from the ends of her hair painting the roses red and Belle's own mind tittered and chanted back at her in a voice too high and cold to be her own, wearing purple, wearing purple, wearing purple…
Faces crowded in around her, memories eating her alive and all of them changing, " Start wearing purple, wearing purple for me now."
