"Bea! Bea! Hurry up!"
Beatrice's little brother, Matthew, shouted out as she stopped from walking to catch her breath. She has been walking for hours towards the only park in the Unknown.
"We've been walking for hours! Let's just play hopscotch here and get over it!"
Her feet hurt, since she had been wearing flats and not the worker's boots her father had told her to put on. She took the chalk from her brother's hand and traced the hopscotch on the ground. She knelt down near some bushes and took a rock from the ground. The red-head threw it to the hopscotch, where it landed on the number 9. Matthew stood next to her, stared at the hopscotch and turned around with his arms crossed.
"I can't play here! We have to go to the park, Bea!"
She groaned and put her hand on her forehead to show she was mad at him.
"Why can't you play here?! It's the exact same thing if you play here or there!"
"There's a bluebird there. Ma says we mustn't disturb the animals.
"Who cares about stupid bluebirds?!"
Beatrice took the rock the laid on the hopscotch and threw it at the small bluebird that pecked at a beige seed on the ground. It started chirping at them and flapping its wings widly, and the young girl had to cover her mouth so she wouldn't laugh hysterically.
But she suddenly felt a chill rising in her spine and she exchanged a look with her brother as they saw blue feathers falling from each other's arms, like those of a bluebird. Her vision turned black and the last she felt was the rush of falling and slamming into the hard ground below.
This is pretty short, since I made this just to kind of introduce. I'll try to get a chapter a day, but I'm really lazy. Also, if anyone was wondering, the title of the chapter is lyrics from the song Giants by Bear Hands. Now, I bid you adieu!
