Public Spectacles

What in the name of Agrippa's floppy sun hat did Luna mean; he would cause a public spectacle? Ginny was not exactly thrilled at the idea of having public relations with Malfoy, for she knew she was a poor arguer when she was mad. Silly things slipped between her lips; out into the open before she had time to think them through, and then her opponent would have all but won the insult-fest. And there was no need to doubt that this spectacle would include insults, for Ginny and Malfoy were not on the… same teams, per say, much less a first-name basis.

Not that she ever imagined it any other way, of course…

Ginny replayed the scene in her head, trying desperately to remember exactly what Luna said.

"Oh, hello, Ginny!" Luna said brightly.

"Hey, Luna. What's up?" Ginny had answered, curious as to her friend's bubbliness, which was more over the top than usual.

"Take these. Draco Malfoy's going to cause you-" but Ginny couldn't exactly hear this, on account of somebody screeching about a spider. "-Public spectacles," Luna finished. "So here they are." Luna handed her a pair of thick black-rimmed glasses without lenses.

"What are-" Ginny began, but Luna was already skipping away, almost running into a girl in canary yellow robes and a big nose.

What had she said? Ginny sighed in frustration as she climbed out of the portrait hole. Yes, she knew it was past curfew, but she had the sudden urge for cookies, and such matters could not be avoided, least of which by sixteen-year old girls, she thought with a grin.

She was about to tickle the pear when she heard something hit the floor. Looking both ways, nothing was there… and then she remembered Luna's words, "Public spectacles." Ginny pulled out the silly pair of glasses, wondering what they would do. But as the black plastic graced her face, she noticed a heap of robes and blond hair sitting on the floor.

"Curiouser and curiouser…" she whispered loudly, smiling slightly at how Luna's… prediction, could you call it? Well, Luna's words had come true, and here Ginny was, wearing "public spectacles, and Draco Malfoy, sitting on the floor against a wall and formerly invisible to Ginny's eyes. It appeared he had fallen asleep. Ginny crouched down and leaned her face in quite close. "Wake up, Malfoy," she breathed, poking his cheek.

He jumped awake, his neck jerking and his eyes bugging out, until he saw whom it was. Ginny giggled as his body relaxed.

"How can you see me?" he yawned, his hand rubbing his eye.

"My public spectacles, of course," she murmured. Then she sat back against the wall next to him. The glasses were stupid looking, but wasn't quite conscience enough to comment on their idiocy yet.

"What you doing here, then?" he said, trying not to fall back asleep.

"Getting a cookie."

"Delicious," he said sarcastically, smirking.

"I know," Ginny whispered, and then kissed him.

A/N Sorry if the ending seems kinda rushed... stupid word limit. But according to MS Word, I'm at exactly 500 words! Go Ellie, go Ellie...

So come on now, and review! It'll only take a minute, I promise!
