Christmas, a time of year of togetherness of loved ones. But it is a time of year when people feel alone and lost in the world. And that is exactly how Shizune, the first apprentice of the Godaime Hokage, feels. The Hokage Mansion is decorated with lights and such other things you decorate a house with around Christmastime. Today is the Christmas bash that Tsunade planned. So she has a whole bunch of ninja and old friends of hers in the house. Shizune could not take the loudness, so she is sitting out in one of the many gardens in the backyard of the Hokage Manor.
"Kami-sama, why do I feel like this?"
"What do you feel Shizune?" Shizune knew that voice; it is Hatake Kakashi's voice.
"What are you doing out here," asked Shizune. She is not going to tell Kakashi of all people how she is feeling.
"I believe I asked you a question first," said Kakashi, who you can tell has a grin on his face.
"No I asked the first question and you answered with a second one that you believe is the first," replied Shizune.
"Ah, touché," said Kakashi, shrugging. "Now does Miss Shizune feel alone around this supposed joyous time of the year?"
"That's why you're a great ninja, your perceptiveness," said Shizune. Kakashi looked amused.
"Yes I suppose that's true," said Kakashi. "So will Miss Shizune talk a walk in the rose garden with me? It'll cure loneliness." Thus Shizune and Kakashi are walking along the path through the rose garden of the Hokage Manor. Unbeknownst to mostly everyone else Kakashi and Shizune are really good friends along with Kurenai, Asuma, Anko, Ibiki, and Genma. Shizune was after all Kurenai's maid of honor and Kakashi was Asuma's best man. The two of them could still not believe that Asuma is dead and Kurenai is having their baby.
"It's been quite a year," said Shizune.
"Ah," said Kakashi. Then suddenly Kakashi pulled Shizune into a hug. It looks like Shizune was not the only one feeling alone. Kakashi did lose Sasuke permanently this year and Naruto and Sakura were still mourning over him. He feels like he let them down. "Just for a little big longer I'm going to hug you then we can pretend this never happened." And she had no qualms about being in his warm embrace. Comfort is what we sometimes need, despite our persona and the ninja of Konohagakure no Sato are no different.
