Looking around the room, he couldn't help but smile. How could he not, with his family like this?
Grant the Robot had the kids all huddled into the corner, leaning down to whisper something to them about scaring their father or their Uncle Jay, depending on who's they were. Jason, dressed as the serial killer Jason, was sitting by the fire, pretending to be reading a book, when in all actuality he was waiting on the kids so he could pretend to be fired. Poison Ivy, aka Kris, and Amy the Prisoner were dancing around in the open space, laughing without trying to hold back. Batman Britt and KJ the OompaLoompa were eating of course, their plates pilled high with the things good for them, and the pile of sweets to balance it out. And Steve the Vampire? Steve had their own little one on his shoulders, bouncing him around the room, grinning and laughing in that way that made his stomach turn and flip.
His eyes traveled down to his own costume, making him groan out lightly. He had let Steve pick out their costumes, and what was his? Super Sperm.
Yes, Super Sperm, that was right. To the kids, he was a ghost, but the adults all knew what he was, and chuckled every time they looked at him. That was alright though, it was Halloween, after all, a time to dress up and look stupid and strange. It was his kind of day.
Chocolate eyes going back to the people around the Spalding Inn, he watched Jason shoot up as about eight kids jumped at him, before he fell onto the ground, letting them jump on him as if they had scared him and were beating him up. Grant leaned against the wall, holding onto his side as he laughed out, watching his long-time friend, before he went over to 'help him out' - in other words, sit on him while the kids continued to do their job. Kris and Amy bounced over to the two eating males, and snagged some of their candy, starting a debate around the table. Finally, his eyes went to Steve, the one person in the room that held his attention longer than the rest. He had moved around the room, still bouncing Kameron on his shoulders, laughing out lightly.
"Guys, get together, I want to get a group photo!"
His voice, though not loud, reached all the bodies in the room, and quickly and clumsily they all moved towards the largest open space in the room. The camera, already set onto the tripod, was set to go off in one minute. He himself moved, reaching up to take the toddler from his husband's shoulders, instead moving to hold him against his side, smoothing out his little pirate's costume. The bodies all pressed closer, and a few people stumbled, a few were pushed, all causing even more laughter and shoving before only a few stood a few seconds before the flash went off.
As his eyes moved from the people around him to the camera in front of them, the flash going off, he couldn't help but let his smile grow. They weren't his family by blood, but they were family none the less. And he knew that he loved them all in their own special way - some as brothers and sisters, some as best friends, and some as husbands and children, nieces and nephews and cousins. When they were all gathered and acting like this?
It just made it that much more apparent how much he loved his family.
