She went through the streets of Las Vegas. Where she was she didnt know nor care at the moment.
She didnt have the strength to think about it at the moment. The events of the day stuck in her head. It was too much what had happened and it almost killed her inside.
She stopped walking and stared at the sky. You could already see the stars. A cold breeze was blowing through her hair. She closed her eyes and enjoyed it.
When she closed her eyes, she saw the scene again: three men lying on the ground. One of them she knew very well. She ran towards him. He couldn't move because they had beaten him so much. When she knelt next to her friend, her eyes were filled with tears. He couldn't see her, but he knew that she was around, he knew her scent. That's what he said. She just came for him and not for the case at all. Just for him. She wanted to be by his side.
She had had her share of tougher cases, but this was a different one. They had beaten her best friend, the one she cares about most. Sometimes she felt like there's something more than just friendship, but she always shook that thought out of her head.
The reason was that she knew that if they ever would break up their friendship would never be like it was.
She blinked. In front of her was a huge building. There were lights everywhere, people in white coats. It reminded her of the lab, but it wasn't the lab. It was the hospital, the hospital she left several hours ago. Right before she walked aimless through Vegas.
What did she do here?
She walked into the hospital and went right to the room, where her friend was lying in. He had bruises everywhere. He couldn't open his left eye and his right arm was broken. Seeing him like that was heartbreaking.
She sighed ,opened the door but hesitated for a moment. She couldn't do that again, going into the room and talking to her friend like nothing had happened. It would be embarassing for her cause she knew that the tears would fall from her eyes She had never cried in front of anyone. That wouldn't be her, the strong woman.
She took a deep breathe, walked futher into the room and stopped in front of the bed
A smile foremed on her lips while she watched her friend breathing peacefully.
Even when he lay there like that, he was cute. The lab tech who became a CSI.
She took a seat which stood next to the bed and went on watching him..
It became too much and tears were starting to fall down here cheek. She quickly washed them away.
Looking away from him,she started to talk
„I can't go on like that. I tried to live with that image in my head: you lying on the ground, bleeding and full of pain. I'd do anything, to get that out of my mind, but I can't. I was walking through Vegas, you know. I spent the whole time to figure out, why the image stucks in my head. I had no clue…but now I know: I love you!".
The moment she had finished her last sentence she realised what she had said. One part of her hoped he hadnt heard her,but the biggest part of her hoped he did.
„I love you, too!"
A crooked voice pulled her out of her thoughts
She looked up and saw him smiling. His eyes were closed.
Her hand took his and she gave him a light kiss on the palm.
Sara laid her head next to Greg's hand. She was happy that he loved her too.
With butterflies in her stomach and a bright smile on her face, she slept in after a while and it was the first time, that she didn't see Greg lying on the ground, beaten up and bleeding.
