It was early morning; light from the warm sun shone through the thin curtains of his room. He had woken only a moment ago when Rivaille heard a knock on his door. Getting up from his stiff bed, he reached for the doorknob only to have it swing open. In front of him was Eren, already dressed in his uniform with the 3D maneuver gear also strapped on.

"Morning, Cadet Rivaille. Did you have a good night?" Eren smiled kindly. He was a curiosity to society; even though he had an innocent personality, he still killed titans with ruthlessness in his eyes and led men into battle with courage and determination. There were rumours that the corporal was actually younger than he seemed and was promoted due to sinister reasons.

Rivaille nodded; despite being dubbed as 'humanity's strongest soldier', he too had respect for Eren; a man who he believed earned his position as corporal. His command in the field may be reckless, but Rivaille had no doubt that he had skills that were valued in the Recon.

"Why did you visit me today, Corporal?" he sighed. It wasn't often to see Eren personally visit soldiers, especially early in the morning. Eren nodded; it was time to get to business.

"I've heard of your achievements during the recent wave of titans. Indeed, you are worthy of being dubbed 'humanity's strongest soldier'. What do you plan to do after you finish training?"

Rivaille rolled the question in his head; he had originally joined the military due to the recommendation of Irwin so it was expected for him to return back to the commander, tucked under the black and white wings of freedom. He looked at Eren's eyes, realising that maybe it wasn't just Irwin that made him want to join the Recon Corps. Maybe it also involved the green eyed man in front of him, waiting patiently for an answer.

"I want to join the Recon Corps, sir."

"Is it because of the debt you feel you must return back to Irwin?"

This stumbled Rivaille a bit. It was true that he felt he owed Irwin in some way, but what really inspired him to join the Recon Corps was…

"Yes sir, but there are also other reasons which contribute to my answer."

"And they are…?"

"You, sir. Just you."
