Eko – the most badass person on the whole island. Here is my tribute, from Ana's POV, to Eko and all his awesomeness.
He's tall, broad, and slightly scary-looking, and you don't have to know him well to know that he WILL beat you to death with his Jesus stick if he has to. He's been everywhere, seen everything, and has been just about all you can be as a person – friend, enemy; murderer, rescuer; drug runner, priest – and has been on pretty much every side of every conflict. Only one person knows him completely, but he's influenced all that he's met, and everyone knows a little part of him. I'm proud to say that I probably know him second-best. His name is Eko, and currently, he's on a deserted island. I expect he'll move on soon, and catch a spaceship to Jupiter or somesuch. He'll threaten NASA with his Jesus stick.
He will. Don't doubt him.
The plane crashed forty days ago, and we've been here ever since. The Others came and took the children and tried to kill or take all the useful-looking ones they could. Naturally, they went for Eko. Three of them will never return to where they came from because they made that mistake.
He just started talking today, and today is the day he became one of the few people who's seen me cry. Some things are just too much to take, and though I have to stay strong for the rest of them, I couldn't help myself. He was there to help. I'm a good leader, I know I am, even though I can be a bitch. But even then, I'm too volatile and suspicious to trust myself to know the right path sometimes. Eko's my antithesis, and I know that as long as he's there keeping me in check, we'll make it through this alive. We'll protect the other suvivors, and none of Them are taking anyone with losing an arm or a leg.
We'll live. I know we will.
