Chapter 1
Severus Snape, dying, looked one last time into those startlingly green eyes of Harry's. He did not see Harry as James' son any more, but Lily's. He realized how much kindness and affection the boy had, and thought himself foolish for not seeing the good in him through all the years he had known him.
In a split second, everything was gone.
He was lying on marble. He stood up, and looked straight ahead. All he could see was blinding white mist. But he looked to his side, and there were walls. He looked at the sky, and there was a dome roof. It looked like….King's Cross? How was this possible?
Then a figure came out of the mist. Snape found himself staring straight into the piercing blue eyes of Albus Dumbledore.
"Severus, Severus my dear boy, you have one more chance to live your life. God has decided this, and he has sent me to tell you, because you committed some extraordinarily brave and good deeds during the course of your life . This will be your chance for a better future. That's all I can say."
Then, Severus was falling through the mist. He screamed in shock, all of his surroundings were disappearing around him. ….
He fell continued through the mist, spiraling downwards, until he entered a region of complete blackness. He waited for a few seconds, and then opened his eyes.
He was sitting on the Hogwarts express again, which was rolling through the dark countryside at night. The compartment lights were on, and it was completely empty. But he could not believe what lay before him. A girl sat, looking about 11 years old, with dark red hair and beautiful, pure green eyes, smiling at him.
He simply gazed at her for a few moments, before the pent up emotion of 21 years soared to his eyes. Tears poured down his cheeks onto his hands, and his chest burned with warmth and sadness, but at the same time, incredible happiness. She's here, he thought, I can finally see her again! Thankyou so much God.
Lily took his trembling hands into hers. She looked worried and confused. "Severus, why are you crying all of a sudden, are you ok? Here, I'll give you a handkerchief." She pulled a handkerchief out of her pockets and patted his watery eyes with it.
After a few moments, he finally regained his compsure, and looked straight into her eyes. A new resolve came over him. He had to be more decisive, taking action, unlike his previous life."Lily," he blushed as he said her name, "Oh Lily. I was crying because I love you. I've loved you for all my life- I mean, from the time we met- I just wanted to let you know."
They gazed at each other for a few moments, as Severus felt the pressure building up inside his chest. Finally a smile formed on Lily's face as she spoke.
"What's brought this sudden change in you, Sev? A moment ago you were seething at James Potter after we met him. But…I…I love you too Severus, and I always have. You are my only and best friend. And I know that nothing will stop us from being together."
Severus could not believe what he was hearing. This is too good to be true, he thought. How about I take the initiative and show how much I love her, rather than being shy like how I was in my previous life?
He gestured for Lily to sit beside him. She leaned on his shoulder, and he put his arm around it. He brought his lips down to her for a soft kiss.
After a few long moments, they broke up, but Lily rested her head on Severus's lap, as she fell asleep. Severus looked down on her red hair with nothing but love, as he kissed it repeatedly. I am the luckiest man in the world, he thought to himself.
Two hours later, Lily woke up, and it was time to go.
