Lisbet was born to be the queen of Asgard. She was born only three years after Thor and Loki and anointed at birth as the goddess of fidelity, prosperity, and wisdom. As she grew up alongside Thor and Loki she was kept at a distance from them by Odin, Frigga, and her own parents. She was not allowed to spend time with the other children because the decision was made to further her education to prepare her for her duties to the throne.
This distance resulted in Thor and Loki obtaining a deep curiosity about her. They would always try and catch peeks at her through the doors to her study rooms or during her routines but never managed to succeed. They would talk about her and bet about who would one day be betrothed to her. This curiosity continued into their teenage years until the evening of her coming of age birthday.
On the morning of her coming of age birthday, Lisbet was woken up by her ladies in waiting. They were three women who were slightly older than her. They took her to be bathed and dressed her. Lisbet felt nervous as they got her ready for that evening. One maid was combing her waist-length silver hair and braiding it into a complex crown braid that wove a tiara into her hair so it would sit and stay atop her head. Her other two ladies in waiting were preparing her clothes. Lisbet's mother wanted the clothes to show off her virginal innocence and purity. This meant that all of the clothes were white and silver. Her dress was a floor length gown with a sweetheart neckline and front that was adorned with silver crystals. She also had a fur cloak that was to sit on her shoulders. As they readied her she absentmindedly tore up a piece of paper into little pieces that she let sit on her lap.
"Brother, what will she look like?" Thor asked Loki as they waited around for dinner. They were both already dressed in their finest. Earlier that week they had both prepared gifts for her. Thor's gift was tossed into a chair. Loki held his close.
"I could not possibly know." Loki laughed. They had discussed what she possibly looked like time and time again throughout their youth. Now they were men, and they were to finally set eyes on their would be bride.
"I think she might find me handsome." Thor observed as he studied his reflection in a mirror that decorated the large room the two waited in. Loki smirked and looked at his gift.
"Perhaps…" He trailed off. He had a deep feeling in his gut that this evening would be life-changing. He hoped and wished that she would have eyes for him over Thor. He felt as if Thor only wanted her hand in marriage as a prize. But Loki wanted more. He was in love with her mystery and he wanted to fall in love with her. He took the lid off of the gift box and studied it. It was a handmade green silk bookmark with a long golden charm at the end. Loki caressed it and smiled. Suddenly, Odin appeared to talk with the two men about the evening. He explained that the two were to have dinner with her and all of their parents. After dinner, they were to each take an observed walk with her, and the evening would then end with them giving her their gifts for her to open in her chambers.
Frigga went to Lisbet's chambers to see her. When she got there she saw her ladies in waiting all standing outside the door, guarding it. They let the queen in and shut the door behind her. When Frigga entered she saw Lisbet pacing by the window. Lisbet turned to her and smiled. Frigga returned the smile. She was happy to see Lisbet looking so regal and innocent. Lisbet's cheeks were slightly flushed with nerves.
"Are you ready?" Frigga asked, approaching Lisbet and laying a hand on her shoulder.
"I am." Lisbet nervously spoke. She knew how important this night was so she was trying to put on a brave face for the evening. She didn't want anyone to know that she was sick with nerves. Her ladies in waiting had always complained about Thor and Loki, they didn't like how mischievous they both were and found them to be annoying. Lisbet had always been curious about them, but she tried to stifle her curiosity with her studies.
"Then let us go seat you." Frigga smiled, leading her out of her room. Lisbet followed her and they met her parents inside one of the medium-sized dining rooms in the palace. The dinner spread was set out and Lisbet was seated at the end of the table across from Frigga who sat on the other end of the table. Lisbet quickly put her napkin in her lap, she began to fiddle with the corners of it nervously. Her mother and father sat across from each other on either side of Frigga. There were then two empty chairs on either side of Lisbet for Thor and Loki.
"Unfortunately Odin will not be joining us. He had some important business to attend to after speaking with Thor and Loki." Frigga explained. Lisbet's parents nodded and they engaged in some small talk with Frigga. Her parents were part of the aristocracy in Asgard. Her father was one of the members on Odin's war council and that is how she was chosen to be the next queen. Lisbet didn't really listen to them, she was far too nervous. She spent the next couple minutes looking at the clock and toward the door. A servant soon came in and bowed to Frigga.
"Thor and Loki are ready to come in." He explained. Frigga nodded.
"Send them in please." She replied, standing to greet them. Lisbet straightened up and stopped messing with her napkin. Thor and Loki came in. They both immediately looked at her so they could finally see what she looked like. Frigga led them over and each of them kissed her hand before they sat.
Thor was the first to be introduced. He knelt beside her seat and took her hand kissing the top of it. He saw her as an easy and plain woman to conquer. He was not as taken aback by her as he thought he would be, she seemed 'simple' to him.
Loki, on the other hand, was transfixed. When he knelt beside her to be introduced they made eye contact and didn't break it through his kiss on the hand. This made Lisbet blush deeply. She was also transfixed by Loki and she quickly favored him. For both of them, it was love at first sight.
Throughout the dinner, everyone engaged in small talk to get to know each other Lisbet's parent's answered for her. She was not expected to speak until she had her walks with Thor and then Loki. Lisbet couldn't help but sneak glances at Loki. To her delight, she always caught his eye and they would share small smiles throughout the meal. It felt like they were in their own little world. Frigga noticed right away and took great delight in their flirtation. After only a short while dinner was finished and Frigga led the three to the gardens. They were each allowed a walk through with her.
Thor was first. As they walked he boasted about his skills in battle and his conquests with other women around Asgard. Lisbet was barley listening to him. She was just thinking about Loki. When they reached the end of their walk, Thor gave her his gift. She passed it to Frigga to hold while she went on her walk with Loki.
Loki sheepishly offered her his arm and she shyly took it as they entered the gardens. The sun had gone down at this point in time and the Gardens were dimly lit by lamps that were placed every few feet. The two walked slowly and nervously for a few moments.
"How was your talk with Thor?" Loki asked to break the silence.
"It was fine." She spoke. It was the first words Loki heard her speak. Her voice was calm and she was more soft-spoken than he imagined. "I have to say, I very much prefer your company." Loki blushed a little bit at the compliment, a small smile spread on his lips.
"I have gone so long wondering about you, you were quite a mystery to Thor and I." Loki joked. "We always tried to sneak glances at you but we always failed." Loki explained. Lisbet smiled at this.
"Hopefully I was not a disappointment." She giggled a bit as they rounded a corner in the garden. Loki blushed a bit deeper before he spoke next.
"Lisbet, you are far more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. I am humbled to be in your presence this evening." Loki quickly replied. Lisbet smiled and turned bright red at his words.
"Oh." She managed to speak, she was taken aback by the compliment. She was beginning to fall in love. She always read about love in books and somehow never thought it could be like that.
"Forgive me for being so bold." Loki began.
"I forgive you." She replied. They both saw the end of their walk and they both stopped walking so they could relish a few more seconds in each other's company. "Loki, I would very much like to see you again." Lisbet softly spoke.
"Anytime you want to see me I will be there." Loki replied, he took her hand and kissed it. Lisbet smiled.
"Tomorrow at dusk? For another walk?" She suggested, bringing her hand to his face, gently running her thumb along his cheek. Loki blushed at her touch.
"I will be here." He answered, overjoyed. He took her hand in his and they finished the walk. When they got to the end Loki gifted her the small gift box and bid her goodnight.
When Lisbet returned to her bedroom her ladies in waiting undressed her and took her clothes to be washed. Lisbet left both gifts on her desk for later. Once her ladies in waiting finished getting her ready they left her to bathe and sleep. Lisbet bathed without washing her hair and got dressed for bed. She undid her hair and set her tiara on the desk beside the gifts. She watched Loki's as she brushed her hair and when she went to her bed she brought her book and the small gift box.
Once she got under the covers she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and unwrapped the gift. When she saw the beautiful green silk bookmark she beamed and quickly went to grab a novel that she was reading. She replaced the plain string of thread she used to mark her page with the bookmark and fell asleep hugging the book to her chest.
