For the past six months, almost more I've been working on a plot that's popped up in my head one morning and refused to leave. I'm almost ready to start posting chapters. This little drabble is an excerpt from that story. I wanna give you all a little taste of the upcoming story and I'd really like it what you think and if you will read it when I start posting it.
It's one of these mornings when Natsu definitely doesn't want to get up. Usually he's an early riser and is wide awake at the crack of dawn, but some days he just wants to stay in bed.
The sun has risen hours ago, as a fire wizard he always felt the sun rise, but he was far from ready to face the day. Moreover he was in Lucy's bed, her scent of vanilla and mangoes surrounding him. Usually he really doesn't like too sweet smells, they itch in his sensitive nose, but for some reason he can't get enough of Lucy's scent, sweet as it was.
On that thought he turns to his stomach and buries his nose in her pillow. She's not in bed with him, he can tell. She'd probably gotten up already and was in a good enough mood not to kick him out. Though she rarely does that anymore.
With a sigh, Natsu starts slipping into dreamland again when a new smell catches his attention. Fried fish. Lucy was making breakfast, he thought with a smile. She does that often, now. Instead of kicking him out she lets him snuggle while she cooks some food for them. He loves her cooking, Lucy is one of the best cooks he knows, might be even better than Mira. Whatever she was making was going to be delicious.
He doses lightly for a while, enjoying the sun on his back and the sounds Lucy makes in the kitchen. She's trying to be quiet, he can tell, but can't really help it when dishes clink together or the water rushes out of the faucet. It doesn't bother him though. He loves these sounds, sounds of home.
Natsu can't really tell how much time has passed when he feels her sitting on the bed. Then one of her small hands is running through his hair, something he loves, but she only seldom does. He stays still, pretending to sleep, just to feel her caress his hair for a bit longer.
Lucy giggles for a second, but continues twining her fingers in his pink tresses.
"Natsu," she calls out sweetly. "Wake up sleepy-head. Breakfast is ready."
Natsu just mumbles something and snuggles deeper into his pillow. There are some things that not even food can lure him away from. Lucy's bed is one of them.
"Come on, silly," she giggles again. "I wanna go on a job after we eat."
He ignores her still, snuggling and way too comfortable to move.
Then she moves closer and he can feel her bend over him, just seconds before her lips plant a small kiss on his cheek. He jumps a bit but doesn't open his eyes.
"Natsu," her voice isn't sweet and giggly anymore, it's almost urgent and pleading and Natsu feels himself seize up. "You need to wake up, please."
The tone of her voice scares him and he opens his eyes, sitting up and looking towards her.
An empty room greets him. The smell of food is gone, the sunlight he'd felt moments before is no more. And worst of all, there is no Lucy.
It was a dream. A cruel, twisted dream. The same one he's had countless times since she's disappeared. His subconscious was taunting him with memories, only for reality to slap him across the face when he wakes up.
She's been gone for months now, and they still had no trace, no leads, no nothing. Just an empty spot in soul where she used to be.
With a groan he threw himself back on the bad and pressed the heels of his palms against his eyes. He wasn't going to cry again. Crying was useless. He was going to get up and find her. And he would find her, no buts and ifs about it. He was going to bring her home.
