Chapter One
BEEP! BEEP! BE-
A hand slammed down on an alarm clock, causing it to shut up. The hand belonged to a teenage girl. One with blonde hair, that was currently in a tangled mess.
"Ashely, you up yet?" Some one yelled up the stairs. The girl's dad. Groaning, she rolled over.
"Yes Dad." Sitting up, she blinked her greyish green eyes, hoping to get rid of the blurry sleep feeling she had. Of course, though, she knew that wasn't possible. Reaching over to her bedside table, she grabbed a pair of glasses. Once they were one, she sighed a little. Now, she could see.
Getting out of bed, she took about half an hour to get dressed, shower and all. By the time she was running down the stairs, she was wearing jeans, red converse high tops, a light blue tank top and a cream cardigan. Her hair was no longer a rat nest, but a neat bun. Slung over her shoulder was a messenger bag, and a skate board was in her hands.
"Took you long enough sweet heart." A familiar voice chuckled. Rolling her eyes, Ashely hit her friend over the head. Seems like he had decided to show up while she was in the shower. He was tall, with shaggy black hair and bright blue eyes. He was dressed in a pair of jeans, skater shoes, a red t-shirt and a brown sweater.
"Haha, you're one to talk Jake." She rolled her eyes and went into the kitchen. Her Dad was standing by the counter, fillinng his coffee cup. "Morning Dad." She smiled, kissing his cheek and stealing the apple from in front of him.
"Morning sweet heart." He chuckled, turning around. At seeing Jake. He smiled. "Good morning Jake."
"Morning Mr. Price." The young man nodded, going behind his friend and stealing the apple from her. That caused her to roll her eyes yet again.
"Have a good day at school you two!" The teenagers her Arthur Price say as he walked out the door and to his squad car.
"We will!" The two said, following behind. Ashely had a new apple in her hand, as she and her best friend jumped on their skate boards. As they road down the street, Ashely's eyes unconsciously drifted to a house across the street.
It was the house of the Parkers. They were a nice old couple. When her and her dad moved into their house ten years ago, May Parker had come over with cookies and Bed Parker would help Arthur with some yard work when he had to work late at the police station.
They also had a nephew that lived with them. Peter Parker. Personally, Ashely never talked to him much. But the two of them had been in school since she had moved to New York. And over time, she had developed a sort of crush on him. One that Jake loved to tease her about on a regular basis.
"So," The teenager in question said in a sing song voice. "You got any plans today?" The way he said it, most would think it was just a regular question. Ashely, however, knew it wasn't. She had known Jake long enough to know what he was getting at.
"Shut it." She turned her head so she wasn't looking at the house and sped ahead. Despite this, there was still blush on her cheeks. Laughing, Jake raced to catch up to her.
"Come on Ash. I know you like him." He teased, giving her a mischievous grin. That caused the girl to glare at him. However, the glare quickly changed to a smirk.
"At least I'm no the one who thinks Flash, is hot." Now, an important thing to know is the Jake Harris was gay. That was one of the reasons Ashely and him were such good friends. She was a bit of a misunderstood nerd and geek, and he was avoided because of his sexuality. After meeting each other in the ninth grade, the two immediately clicked.
"Okay." He held up a finger, wagging it at her. "In my defense he is an attractive looking man."
"Other than the ugly personality." She snorted, kicking the ground and speeding forward. "Race you." Grinning, Jake followed behind him.
"You're on."
When the two teenagers got to school, the halls were already crowded with people. Sweaty teens and teachers milled about. The popular girls were talking with each other about who was with who, the guys discussing last nights game. Everyone else was in groups with their friends, just talking about what ever.
Ashely weaved in between the other students, Jake behind them. When they had enough room, she got on her board only to be yelled at by a teacher.
"Ms. Price, Mr. Harris?"
"Yes sir." They both said hopping off their boards.
"Do you want to keep those?"
"Of course sir." Ashely nodded.
"Then I suggest you keep the wheels up." Both teens nodded, holding their boards above their heads as they walked away. As they did, they were still able to hear what he mumbled to himself. "I swear, between you two and Parker."
That caused Jake to smirk and nudge his friend lightly in the side.
"Shut up." She rolled her eyes, but still blushed. As they got to their lockers, they watched as a couple across the hall were making out. Both teenagers scrunched up their faces in disgust. After getting their books, the scowled at the couple.
"And that, my dear friend, is why I am not straight." Laughing, it was Ashely's turn to nudge him in the side.
"Sure it is." They walked out into the court yard, seeing as it was there was still time before the first class. There were a few students sitting at the tables but most were congregated around one. Shooting a look at Jake, Ashely ran over. Her friend was close behind him. As they got closer, they heard people shouting.
"Eat it! Eat it! Eat it!" Getting to the group, the two pushed their way through to see Flash holding a freshman over his food.
"Eat your vegetables, Gordon." He ordered, smirking. "Come on!" From the corner of her eye, Ashely shot her friend a look. He simply shrugged and shook his head. After watching for another second, she got ready to stop it. Sure, she was a girl and compared to Flash she was weak, but this kid needed help.
But before she could, she saw Peter push through to stand beside her. The look in his face showed he was thinking the same as her.
"Hey, Parker. Come on!" Flash grinned, seeing the photography loving boy. "Get a picture of this." Peter just shook his head, clearly disgusted by this.
"No, I'm not gonna take a picture of it." He glared at the bully. "Put him down, man." Every one else was just laughing.
"Come on." Flash whined.
"Gordon, don't eat it." Ashely spoke up, hoping to back up her crush. On her other side, Jake nodded a look on his face just like her's and Peter's.
"Take the picture, Parker." Flash said again, a now annoyed and angry look on his face.
"Put him down, Flash." This time it was Jake who spoke up.
"Take the picture." When the bully didn't do anything. That must have got under Peter's skin, because he did one last thing to stop Flash.
"Put him down, Eugene!" That did it too. Flash dropped Gordon harshly on the ground. Immediately, Ashely and Jake went over to him to make sure he was okay.
"Hey, man." Peter was about to go over to, when Flash socked him in the face. The spiky brown haired boy dropped to the ground like a rock, clearly not expecting this. Ashely's eyes widened when she saw this.
"Come on!" The blonde haired teenager shouted, anger evident on his face. "Get up, Parker!" Peter did stand up, only to get punched in the stomach. "Come on. Get up!" He gave one good kick to the boy on the ground, causing him to roll onto his side.
"Still not taking the picture." He wheezed out, holding his stomach. Glancing at his friend, Jake saw the urge in Ashely's eyes to help and before he could stop her she was already standing up.
"Flash, come on." She went to pull him back from kicking Peter. "St-" Before she could finish what she was saying, Flash pulled her around him and pretty much through her to the ground. Despite this, she still managed to put herself in front of Peter.
"Stay down Parker!" Flash shouted, glaring at the two, before turning to look at the rest of the crowd. "Who wants another one? Huh?" Jake, fearing for his friend, was about to go over when a blonde haired girl walked in front of the group on the ground.
Her name was Gwen Stacy. She was also a friend of Ashely's. The two of them worked as interns at OSCORP together, and shared the position of head intern.
"Flash!" She shouted, turning the bully to face her. "Flash, we still on for after school today?" Her voice took on an stern, teacher like tone. "My house, 3:30?" It was clear she was holding the fact that she tutored the joke over his head. "I hope you did your home work. Last time, I was very disappointed in you." As she was distracting him, Ashely helped Peter stand up.
"Okay, move." Flash tried to get back to what he was doing, but Gwen stopped him.
"No, Flash, how about we go to class?" She gave him a look that almost dared him to not listen to her. "How about it?" Just then the bell rang, making everyone groan. Clearly they had wanted to see Flash beat up Peter, and maybe Ashely, but they didn't want to risk the wrath of their teachers.
Rolling his eyes, Flash turned to leave. As he did, Gwen shot her friend a look. Ashely nodded, letting her know she understood. Jake did too, and passed his friend Peter's camera. Unfortunately, he couldn't get to it before some one kicked it.
"Here." She said softly, handing it to Peter. "I'm sorry if it got damaged." Shaking his head, he just sighed.
"It's fine." Nodding, she picked up her bag -which she had ended up dropping when Flash pushed her- and gave a quick wave as she and Jake walked away. As they did, Jake glanced over his shoulder to see Peter staring after Ashely.
