Author's Note: Every year, the Super Mario Wiki celebrates its anniversary with a big awards ceremony for our (and our readers') favourite and least favourite things in the Mario series (among other festivities, all of which can be found on our forums: www. marioboards. com). This year, I presented the award for favourite Koopaling, deciding to do it as a silly little poem/rap, plus a custom Author's Note, also included below, along with the poll results at the end.

The Most Awesome Favourite Koopaling Rap Poetry SLAM Jam Evarr

Today we're rappin' 'bout them Koopalings
The craziest kids that we've ever seen
They used to be part of 'bout everything
From Hotel Mario to Mario is Missing!

But then they seemed to go away
No roles for years - made us all go "hey!"
Just one M&L spot, but with nothing to say?
"Koopalings, we want you back, fo' real - today!"

Then finally a triumphant return
In NSMBWii, the developers learned
With new shell colours and a couple new 'dos
But there was another catch that came with them too

For years we knew 'em as Bowser's kids
But now it seems of Koopalings ol' Koopa's been rid
And little Bowser Jr.'s the only child he's got?
When we heard the news, rage was our only thought

But in the grand scheme of things, it's better than nothin'
They could have stayed unused forever like Wart or Peasley or somethin'
And anyway they're served, we do love them lil' muffins
So let's count them down now - cuz we ain't bluffin'!

The first Koopaling's sweet Wendy O.
She's the only girl with plenty of bros.
Atop her weirdly bald head is a polka-dot bow
She's the least popular, but that's just how it goes!

Morton Koopa Jr.'s a peculiar case
From the other Koopalings, he seems a different race
And don't forget that star that's all over his face
Of all the Koopalings, he's way down in 6th place.

Roy's big and pink, strong, tough and mean
Rumour has it that he bullies all his other siblings
He wears sunglasses at night just like Roy Orbison
We think they're just for looks: he ain't got prescriptions.

Everyone thought Larry Koopa was named for Larry King
But it turns out we were wrong about everything
He's really named for the drummer of the band U2
Larry Mullen Jr. – here's lookin' at you!

They say Iggy's glasses are a bit spacious
And in the movie, his full name was "Ignatious"
He was Koopa's cousin then, not his son like before
But now the crazy kid's neither – oh what a complex lore!

Now little Lemmy Koopa's the runt of the lot
But people love him anyway, so 2nd place he got
He sports a rainbow mohawk and now a ponytail too?
As he rolls on rubber balls, green, orange, yellow or blue.

And that brings us to the one that we've been waiting on,
It's the eldest Koopaling – it's Ludwig Von
King Bowser's heir before Junior came along
His throne may be taken, but his music's not gone,

And if you know the notes, then you too can join in
With your favourite Koopaling – the one named for Beethoven
So put your hands together and celebrate this win
