Chapter one:

a/n; This is my first Hunger Games fic. Really nervous about how this will turn out, so review if you want me to update again. Just thought I'd start this. So, Katniss is a junior who moves to Panem County, and attends District High. I know this has probably been over used, and I know that I've done one for almost everything I've ever written a fan fic about. Here we go…

chapter one: Katniss

My sister wakes me up by hitting me with a pillow.

"Come on. We're here."

I look out the window as Mom pulls up to our house. I climb out of the car. I grab my duffle bag, and carry it up to the door. The house is a small white house, two bedrooms two bathroom.

I enter my room and sit down at my new desk. Prim comes into the room and watches me write my English essay. I love English, but I do find it hard to complete.;

My sister flops down on the bed, and covers her face. She only does that when she's about to cry. I set down my pencil, and go over to the bed to sit beside her.

"Prim? Are you okay?" I ask, pulling her hands away from her face, and tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear.

"Kat, how can you be so calm? We had to leave our friends." Prim says, sobbing into me.

My mind flashes back to the only friend I've ever had. Madge is the only one who really understood me. But I'm going to try at this new school, and I know prim will too.

The doorbell rings. I leave Prim, instructing her to get herself cleaned up. I go to get the door. A girl with curly brown hair isz standing on the other side.

"Hey. My name is Rue. What's your's?"

"Katniss. You can call me Kat." I answer.

Rue smiles, and holds out something. I take it. It's a plate, covered in tin foil.

"Mom sent me over with this to welcome you to the neighborhood."

I smile at Rue. "Thanks." I say, watching her walk down the steps and across the lawn.

My mind races as I close the door. She would be a good friend for Prim. I think the girls would get along great.
