The Games People Play – Like Canasta
Spacegypsy1
Synopsis: Sam and Jack. A cabin full of players, a couple walking and the spy who loved it. There's a little team plus -thrown in to get the game rolling. OKAY, SO I PROMOTED SAM!
A/C (Authors confession)Stolen from a quote by MPF: "I attempted to write S/J off a prompt because someone asked me to; however, I didn't completely follow directions. Still, I disclaim both credit and responsibility"- for the story, not the quote.
"Canasta for six players, that's the name of the game." Cam started dealing the cards.
The small table was crowded with Daniel, Vala, Carolyn, Cam, Ishta and Teal'c. Jack and Sam had declined and opted for a walk.
Forty minutes into the game, Cam racked in the discard pile with an evil grin, and starting laying cards down as fast as he could. "Those two sure have been gone a while."
Vala was frowning and rearranging her hand. "You've been here enough times to know it's big out there, lots of places to walk."
"O'Neill's knee was bothering him earlier. I am surprised he has not returned." Teal'c speculated on the card DanielJackson had just discarded.
"Maybe they're talking and not walking." Daniel frowned at the card Ishta picked up.
"Perhaps they will return soon. The sun is setting." Ishta returned Daniel's calculating stare.
"Oh, good!" Carolyn gathered the last three cards put on the pile. She neatly arranged her groupings on the table, pushing aside a few of Cam's cards.
"Hey! Stop that! You're messin' up my display!" Cam's brows scrunched up as he set the cards right again.
"I'm starving. Anyone else need something from the kitchen?" When no one answered, Vala went to the fridge. Unable to find anything interesting, she opted for a glass of tap water. Turning on the faucet she looked up and spied the missing pair out the window.
The first General had the second General by the shoulders. And the second General had the first General by the ribs. Drinking her water, Vala didn't take her eyes off of them. When Jack yanked Sam forward and kissed her, Vala choked on her water.
"You okay in there?" Daniel called.
Clearing her throat, she answered. "Fine."
Vala watched the couple pull apart and start for the cabin. Grabbing a bag of chips, she rushed back in and settled in her chair. "Hello. Have a nice walk?" She asked pleasantly as the couple entered.
"Yeah, nice." Jack came to stand behind Daniel. "You need to pick up that seven, Daniel."
"Jack!"
"What?"
"So. Where did you go?" Vala's head bobbed as she spoke.
"Just walked around. It's beautiful here." Sam sat on the arm of the couch and watched the players.
Vala picked up and discarded, not even paying attention. "Windy out there?"
"Hmm?" Looking confused, Sam eyed Vala.
"Your hair. It's all mussed." Vala studied her cards, then watched Daniel pick up the one she needed. "Damn it Daniel! I needed that seven."
"Talk to Jack."
Sam was trying to right her hair, running her fingers through it, watching Jack watch her.
"Jack, darling, if you want to play, go play with Samantha." Vala placed her cards in order on the table, and with only one card in her hand, she discarded, rubbing her palms together. "That was fun. Another game? Jack?"
"Nope. I've got burgers to cook." Jack started out the door.
"Samantha?"
"Wait, Sir, I'll help you." She shot up from her seat and dashed out behind Jack.
"Okay," Cam pulled the cards together, split them in half, gave half to Carolyn to shuffle, and started ruffling his stack together. "Who wants to play?"
"I think I know." Vala sing-songed with a goofy grin.
