"Bella please," I begged.

"But, Edward I-"

"Bella what you feel, is it love or lust?" She was looking at me now, her eyes fixed on mine. The pained look on her face made me aware of something I had said. "Come on Bella you know that's not what I meant." I caught her half way out the door.

"Then what did you mean Edward?" she questioned with tears. "How can you doubt my love for you?"

"Bella," my suddenly velvety, smooth voice caught her off guard, "you must understand, I- I can't read your mind. I fear losing you."

"You fear?" she asked sensually. "I thought vampires were fearless." She raised a thin eyebrow and smiled. Her lips were delicate and smooth. Flowing with life only a human could posses. They were so tempting.

"Only losing you my love, I fear only losing you." I couldn't resist any longer and gave in with a kiss. I could hear her heart pounding out of control and feel her body stiffen, her blood flowing through her body like springs of fresh water. Electricity-like pulses raced down my spine as my tongue traced the edge of her lips. Then, my ears caught the particular sound of a police cruiser pulling up in the small parking lot. "Charlie is here." She was still in a daze when she made a small grunting sound.

"I really do love you," she managed to say while gasping for air. There was a strange solemnity to her tone. Her eyes were avoiding mine.

"I love you too, but I'm not like you Bella."

"What do you mean?"

"I'm not human Bella. If I were to ever lose control and hurt you I wouldn't know what to do with myself."

"Bells?!" Charlie's voice came from downstairs.

"I have to go," I said jumping out the window. As I glanced back I could see that pained look on her face again. I closed my eyes feeling the midnight wind through my hair. Letting my senses take over and transport me as far away from this pain as possible.

I ran along the edge of the tree line away from the view of drivers but close enough for me to see them. Matching a red Chevy's speed, I could see the teenager's faces through the window. How frivolous and careless, I thought. Maybe my century of living gave me a deeper sense of what love really is. I ran till I subconsciously reached my sanctuary. The place where I once brought her and everything took off from.

I walked towards the center of the clearing; the wind flowed through the trees making the leaves sing and dance in an asynchronous manner all around me. Spirit or not here was where I felt at one with everything, were I could find obscured answers to unspoken questions. The soft cool wind pressed my short sleeved cotton Alfani shirt against my body, allowing it to melt in with my abs.

With a soft sigh I looked up at the open sky. There was no canopy. This allowed the moon's soft, pale shine to radiate of my diamond-like skin and reflect onto the darkened figure leaning on a tree sixty feet in front of me.

"Huh, I don't know what she sees in you," the dark figure spoke with a smirk.

"To be honest with you, I don't know either. I'm the world's most dangerous predator and she can't see it," I responded darkly.

"Don't flatter yourself Edward, but hey, maybe you are right about one thing, you are dangerous to Bella, but she is just too blind to see it. Maybe I could show her a different world, the world you could never give h-"his smirk disappeared into a choking noise and his features tightened into horror as I paced sixty feet in one of his heartbeats. With a vice-like grip on his throat and bared teeth my ferocity stunned him.

"Bella is my world, and I would give anything for her. I have waited too long for Bella so a furry brat like you could steal her away from me. Do you hear me Jacob?"
