The hallway light flickered on. A shadowy figure stood in the doorway of the child's bedroom. Mike stepped in with caution, walking softly on his tippy-toes so he couldn't wake his little brother up.
Jeremy lay fast asleep, his breathing and his arm extended, as if he was expecting something to be placed in his hands. Mike bent down and picked up the Fredbear plushie off of the ground and placed it in the kid's hands, watching him smile as he hugged it tight. Mike smiled. He wasn't sure if the toy's eyes were following him, or if it was just his imagination; either way, it didn't bother him much. He kneeled down and kissed his little brother's forehead.
"Can you hear me?" Mike whispered. "I don't know if you can hear me." Then he leaned over and uttered two words, two words Jeremy hadn't heard from his brother since birth. "…I'm sorry." He muttered, stroking the child's hair. As he walked out of the room, he stopped in the doorway and glanced over his shoulder, hoping Jeremy couldn't see the tears of affection and deep love forming in his eyes.
As the sound of footsteps faded away, Jeremy's eye cracked open and he could feel himself smiling. I forgive you, he thought.

The hallway lights flickered on. A shadowy figure stood in one of the bedroom wards of the hospital. Mike stepped in cautiously, careful not to wake any of the patients up.
Jeremy lay stock still in bed, his breathing even and his arm extended, as if he was expecting something to be placed in his hands. Mike picked up the Fredbear plushie from off of the bedside table and placed it in the kid's hands, watching him smile beneath the oxygen mask as he hugged it tight. Mike smiled. He knew the toy's beady eyes were following him, but it didn't bother him much. He kneeled down and kissed his little brother's forehead.
"Can you hear me?" he whispered. "I don't know if you can hear me." He sniffed, barely able to speak coherently. "…I'm sorry." Tears dripped onto Jeremy's forehead as Mike stoked the child's hair. "…I'm sorry." As he walked out of the room, he glanced over his shoulder, wishing Jeremy could see the tears of affection and deep sorrow dripping from his eyes.
As the sound of footsteps faded away, a long beep was heard from the heart monitor and Jeremy stopped breathing.
