Title: Promises to Keep

Hermione discovered Severus' pensive at Grimmauld. It was a high stakes maneuver but time accelerated during the war so she poured her feelings into the bowl.

Hours later his dark figure stood before her. "I seem in possession of thoughts not my own," he whispered scathingly. "Is this a joke?"

The emotion in her eyes nearly broke him. "I assure you, it's no joke."

Long calloused fingers reached down to clasp her hand, the other smoothing her hair. "Hermione" he whispered longingly, shaking his head turning to leave. "I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep." (1)
