a/n hello everyone! it's been a long time. here i come back with a touken fluff!

warnings: horrible ooc-ness

Kaneki huffed under his breath, his brows furrowing together. He scrolled through his phone hastily and absentmindedly bit his lower lip, searching through the internet for the ideas. Touka's birthday was coming up in two days and he still had no idea what to give her-a bouquet of flowers, a box of chocolates, a rabbit keychain, even a light novel-or maybe a new mask? He'd even considered meeting up with Yoriko to go present shopping for her, but that meant going out of his way to buy Touka a present and somehow, he felt that she would feel burdened at that.

Kaneki sighed and turned his phone off, promptly giving up. He'd probably have to be straightforward this time and ask her what she wanted, instead of playing guessing games again. Last year had been embarassing enough; he didn't need another repeat of it.

He was pulled out of his trance when a slim figure put a tray on his table and slid into the chair. Ever so beautiful, Touka perched her chin atop her hand and gazed at Kaneki endearingly. He stared back at her the same, reflecting her look of affection.

"Whatever's the matter?" she asked. The light from the window bathed her in its glory, painting a serene picture before his eyes. Kaneki wished he had the power to capture the moment and frame it in his mind.

"Nothing," he answered meekly, smiling. She smiled back and hummed, turning to look outside the window. A few moments passed in silence.

Kaneki took the time to admire her features; blue bob hair framing half her face, a small smile playing on her lips. Her cheeks were slightly red as a result of today's business, but her eyes still sparkled in its usual way. His eyes traced her side profile as discreetly as possible, until Touka turned sharply to look at him.

Kaneki jumped and immediately turned away, red creeping over his cheeks and the tips of his ears. "U-um," he stuttered. Touka only smirked knowingly, eyebrow raised.

Then, she leaned forwards onto the table. "Kaneki-kun," she started, drawing his gaze to her. "You know it's going to be my birthday, right?"

He nodded.

She continued, eyes drifting away, "Is it too much to ask for an early present?"

Kaneki froze. Damn it, he thought.

"Um, no, I-I guess," he replied uneasily. What the hell was he supposed to get her?

His thoughts must've been reflected on his face, then, because Touka frowned at him in concern. "Kaneki? are you okay?"

He nodded weakly. "Yeah," he smiled, "just- what do i get you?" He paused. Oops, now I've said it.

To his surprise, she only laughed. "Oh, is that it?" She waved a hand, as if to dismiss the thought. "Don't worry about that." She suddenly stood up. "Come, Kaneki. Follow me."

Confused, he stood up and followed her out of Anteiku. Once the door behind them closed, she turned to a quiet corner and beckoned him to follow.

When he was behind her, Touka turned around and faced him, looking up. Kaneki's breath hitched because she looks so beautiful here, I can just-

"Kaneki," Touka said, "you're spacing out again." She furrowed her brows a little bit. Kaneki grinned sheepishly.

"Sorry, just wondering what to-hmmph!" His words were cut by Touka's mouth as she grabbed his collar and kissed him. His eyes widened and red creeped onto his face again, this time at a much faster rate. He closed his eyes and relaxed slowly, kissing back as much as he can before Touka pulled away. She backed away and looked up, eyes wide. It seemed like she was as flustered as him.

"Um," she started, looking away. "Thank you for the present." With that, she turned around and walked back to Anteiku.

Kaneki stood there awkwardly, not putting two and two together yet. then, oh.

A silly grin spread on his face and he walked back to Anteiku with a spring in his steps.
