Spencer prays at night before she sleeps.

She doesn't get down on her knees at the edge of her bed with her hands clasped together, and gaze longingly at the stars. After all, you can't see the stars in Los Angeles. And she'd try not to laugh if you asked her that before tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

Saying 'Grace' at dinner is something she takes a genuine joy from. She doesn't dread it, nor find it a taxing practice. Why shouldn't she be happy for a family that isn't as dysfunctional as it could be, or the comfortable life they live? She's expressing her appreciation for what she has at dinner time with each sincere 'Amen' being said out loud.

When homework passes for done, a yawn creeps up and takes her by surprise. The night time routine begins with a change into pajamas, and she spends a full ten minutes dedicated to her oral hygiene while fighting over the mirror in the bathroom while Glen does the same thing. They both leave the sink with toothpaste stains on their shirts and tussled hair. And when Spencer gets back in her room, she always picks up her cell phone, because she always gets a call.

She talks with Ashley until all they have is a sleepy mumble of words, asking if the other is still awake or not. They talk about nothing until finally someone concedes and whispers a soft 'Goodnight' into the ear of the other. And then Spencer is left with a silence that fills her, forcing her to catalogue her thoughts to make room for the comfortable emptiness that sleep brings.

Spencer doesn't say 'Amen' at night before she falls asleep. But when she turns over on her side to snuggle into her blanket, drifting on her way into dreams, she's praying.
