~~ A.N: This is my first poem that I felt inspired to write. It took me a while even though it is short... I hope you like it! And please, tell me how I did. ~~
I hide behind my smile plain,
Tempered glass to hide the pain.
I know right where to go,
Come now, lets start the show.
Smoke and mirrors are what you see,
But its all just lies plain to me.
Standing in the shadow of you,
For me to take the lead would be untrue.
We whirl and twirl, shining at night,
Just to try and stand in the spotlight.
The shining lights sparkling there,
I can't help but to look into the air.
You see the mask upon my face,
And 'tis be what you see is grace,
But what a wonderful actress am I,
If you cannot see through my lie.
We take flight and dance to ward off the cold,
But soon, so soon, it does grow old.
I stop to stare into the night,
I wonder how long I will have to fight.
The light soon returns to you,
As it does to so very few.
We stand on stage to take a bow,
But this is the last, I know now.
Deep down in my heart,
I know this is a farce to keep people from my part.
I stand to still to stay,
I have no other way.
Knowing is half the battle,
But the other is just a rattle.
Standing in the dark is my part,
So now I must give my heart.
