Madness

He didn't want to start a fight. He didn't want them to die. He didn't want his Color to show. He didn't want them to fear him. He wasn't a bad guy. He wasn't evil. Not him. Not him, the Purple Man. The Purple Man, sometimes called the Killer, sometimes the Purple Guy. Sometimes even called crazy.

But that wasn't him. Not him, not the Purple Man. He didn't kill those kids. No no no. If he told that to himself, he might be right. But no no no no no no no no one believed him. Not him, never believe him. Never believe the Purple Man.

I'm not the bad guy, he thought, I'm not the bad guy. I'm not crazy.

He said, and thought, these things from around the biting coat. The hug-yourself jacket. Not I'm not crazy. I didn't do it. No me not me not me no no no.

Why didn't they believe him? Why was he in chains and not the bear? Not the fox? The bunny? The chicken? Not the kid? Not the puppet? Why was he in chains?

They didn't see them. They didn't know. At night they came to life. No one saw. Nope. Never. They never believed the Purple Man. Never never never ever never.

But what do they know? It was his job to watch them. His job to keep everyone safe. Now he was in straights. Chains.

Who would watch them now? Who would take his place? Who could ever replace the Purple Man?

Not the new guy. Not the new guy, not at all. Nope no way never.

His wrists bled. Red down his sleeves. Down the coat. Red red red red red.

Red was a good color. Not purple. He hated purple. Red was good. Red was safe. Red was safe. Not purple never purple never purple.

Now he has been replaced. Replaced by the new guy. Not the Purple Guy. Well good for him. Good for the new guy.

Soon they'd learn. Learn. They'd find out soon enough. They'd all know. Know the truth behind the Purple Man. And he'd be free. Free free free free free.

No more Purple Man. Nope. No more Purple Man.

His neck bled as the coat grew tighter. Good. Tighter. Good. Tighter. Red down his neck. Good. Red was good. Red wasn't purple. Nope not purple.

He laughed. Ha ha ha. Yeah they'd see. Soon they'd all know. The Purple Man wasn't crazy. They were crazy. Not him. Never him. Never the Purple Man.

They were crazy and he was the sane one.

Red over his wrists. Red over his neck. Red down his front. Red red red red red. The Purple Man wasn't purple. He was red because red was good and purple was bad. Purple bad purple bad purple bad purple bad purple bad. Red good.

Red on his mouth. Red on his lips. On his teeth. Not purple. Golden red. Good. Gold. Gold. Gold. Also a good color. Gold was good red was good. Purple was bad and they'd all know. Not him not him not him it wasn't him. And he knew. Colors. Red from his eyes. Purple rings on his wrists. No no no not him no no no no. The coat. The coat was lying. The coat was working for them! He had to get out. Out of the coat. Free himself. Stop the bear.

They were working for the bear! No no no NO!

Struggling now. Struggling from the jacket. Free. More red. Purple rings on his neck on his wrists on his hands. No no not purple.

Free. More red. More purple more red more purple more red.

Gold. He saw gold. He saw gold and gold was good. He could live with gold. He could live with gold. Gold gold gold gold gold.

Laughing at him or was that him laughing? But he saw them. The bear the fox the chicken the rabbit the boy the puppet them all laughing he saw them laughing laughing.

.notpurple!

Black. He saw black. Black from then until eternity.
