Hermione used to not sleep because of her reoccurring nightmare about that night at Malfoy Mansion.

After the war, Ron and she found comfort in each other. Hermione was convinced that since they were both there and they both endured the same pain they would be able to somehow mend each other's wounds.

It took them a year, a year of bickering constantly and a year of hurt words followed by apologies, to realize that while they would forever understand each other, the time they spent together during that last year tore at them in ways they could never heal, not with each other.

After their last gut wrenching and tear stained break-up, Hermione decided to spend some time away and took a job in the US as a ministry-ambassador.

When Hermione met Quinn she found the blonde charming and confident, but soon discovered that she flustered Quinn in the most adorable way. Quinn was the perfect balance of serious and goofy, confident and nervous. And when the two of them would watch scary movies together, Hermione found comfort in Quinn's confident and protective arms, something she hadn't felt in quite sometime.

The first time Quinn asked about the scars on her wrist, Hermione simply brushed it off, changing the subject. The blonde just respond by placing a gentle kiss against Hermione's marred skin and asking her where she wanted to go for dinner.

The second time Quinn didn't need to ask about the scars when she awoke to find Hermione curled on the opposite side of the bed whimpering in her sleep, her wrist curled protectively against herself. Instead of pushing, Quinn simply moved to pull Hermione into her, again, placing a soft kiss to the inside of her wrist.

Hermione told Quinn she was a witch in the middle of their first big fight after Quinn made an offhanded comment about Hermione's 'freakish need to keep everything a secret.'

Quinn was skeptical until, still in her fit of anger, Hermione levitated a book dropping it on to the blonde's head. After the initial shock and an ice pack later, Quinn asked again about the scars. This time Hermione just broke down in Quinn's arms, explaining through sobs and hiccups.

When they made love that night, Quinn made sure to pay special loving attention to Hermione's wrist.

The first time Quinn met Ron had been a disaster. The two were silently dueling over lunch; Quinn blatantly showing Ron that Hermione was hers and Ron making it painfully obvious that Quinn would never understand the magical world. Hermione left the restaurant in a huff telling them to both grow up.

After that Ron and Quinn came to a silent understanding. Ron understood that no matter what at the end of the day, Hermione would go to Quinn's arms for comfort. And Quinn understood that the bond Hermione and Ron shared was something akin to what she and Puck had, something unbreakable, something no one could understand, but that didn't mean she wouldn't be the one to pull Hermione from her nightmares and kiss away her pain.

Hermione loves the way that Quinn (even in her sleep) can sense when Hermione is fretting in her sleep. On the nights when she can remember the nightmare, Hermione would always wake up with Quinn's limbs draped around her like a protective blanket, her wrist always close to the blonde's lips.

Hermione still has nightmares, but she sleeps now. And when she wakes, she knows that the blonde next to her will keep her safe even in her slumber.
