Chapter One: The First Show of Power

Gang Wars

The gangs spread like a plaque spreading east and going west to my town. When I was 8 years old I saw a robbery of the pharmacy store. So I was very young when I was first exposed to gang violence. The robbery was by the Crips for those who do not know who the Crips should be glad because then they don't have to worry about them. They are the main gang of the U.S. first starting as a black power group. Crip stands for community revolution in progress. But when they started trafficking drugs they lost the morals but kept the name. As it always seems to be in a black neighborhood like mine the Police are all white like an occupying presence. The gangs verses police has always been pretty even. Generally guns verse guns. That is until I joined the LA PD.

At the age of 14 I like most mutants first starting seeing my powers. It all started when there was a bang on my door. I looked through the hole in my door and saw the Crips the rival to the Bloods. This happens a lot to the more respectable house in the neighborhood. This was our first time and I was scared. The Crips stormed though my door and shoved me into the window, which broke. I was then hold at gun point while I watched them raid my Mom's jewelry box. Then It happened I felt myself get much hotter and then I looked down at my skin and I saw my skin turn from brown to green. One of the Crip members looked at me and raised his gun. Almost as though it was a limb of my body the tree next to my window broke through the glass and hit the crypt. The leaves from the tree somehow turned into razors and sliced there way through the Crip 's guns. They ran in fear.

When the police came I got a metal pinned on me and was told I was an asset to society.

"This award is presented to Dom Powers who defended is house and stopped a gang attack. Although he is a mutant he is still an important part of this neighborhood,"said the southern sounding police chief Connor.

At this a shout from the audience saying many obscenities that are not worth repeating and generally telling me this neighborhood would not accept my kind. I never thought about Mutants because I never thought it would happen to me. Still though I was kind of happy that I would be able to protect myself. I wish the neighborhood would agree with me. More than one I was yelled at and told to get away from the children. I would never confront them though because I was scared of what they could do. Mutants die just as easy as humans. When I left high school I applied for Holy Cross. There I studied law and order. I graduated with a 3.3 GPA and was able to take many self-defense classes. Then I would be able to join the LA PD where I can fight the criminals that are the scum of the streets.
