I was standing in a well lit cave on sands that burned my bare feet. All around me were huge dragons, but I somehow knew they wouldn't hurt us. There were other people around me, all in white robes. I looked down and realized I was in the same thing. There were hundreds of people in the stands, with all different types of clothes. I turned around and gaped. There were 30 large eggs in front of me, and the biggest gold dragon imaginable. Her, and somehow I knew she was female, eyes were swirling yellow and green, and she was crouched almost over the eggs. One of the eggs was set slightly apart, as though it were more important somehow. As I was looking around, one of the eggs cracked and then shattered. A tiny bronze dragonette tumbled out, keening piteously. One of the others in a white robe approached him, and his face split into a disbelieving smile. Suddenly, all the eggs were cracking at once, and all the little dragons had found their partners. All but one, who'd yet to hatch and the egg that was set aside. The egg to the side started rocking and a tapping sound was heard from it. After a moment, the shell shattered, and a gold dragonette tumbled out, larger than the other ones who'd emerged. She looked directly at me, keened, then turned to the girl next to me. That girl's face was filled with the same wonder as everyone else who'd partnered with a dragon. I wondered what I was doing there, but my ruminations were interrupted by the last egg starting to rock violently. I turned to watch it, and a small blue dragonette flopped out. He keened, looking around. He ignored all the boys standing around him and walked directly over to me. He looked up at me, catching my eyes in his rainbow regard. My breath caught as a wave of acceptance, love, and hunger washed over me. His name was Jareth, and he was mine and I was his. We were two halves of a whole. He nudged my legs, and I crouched, scratching his eye ridges.
I woke with a gasp, feeling the absence of my dragon acutely. It had just been a dream, all in my head. A few tears escaped my eyes, since even though it was a dream, it had seemed so real. It felt like I'd actually been there at the Hatching, practically still felt the bond that'd been forged in my imagination. I hoped, if it was real, Jareth would find someone who could be there for him.
A/N: Hi y'all. This is a dream I had the other night, almost exactly. It was an amazing dream, and I know I didn't do it justice. I know it kinda ends on a cliffy, but I don't have another planned unless everyone wants a sequel. I have an idea for a sequel, but I'm not gonna post it unless its wanted.
Disclaimer: I do not own DragonRiders of Pern, other than a couple of the books.
