Toeto

Crystal tears lining her eyes, she was easily overcome by her shyness.

"Eto..."

Her favorite one-worded cry meekly dropped from her lips, her black shoes becoming the center of attention once again.

It wasn't like he wasn't feeling the same.

Messy blonde hair spilling across his cute face, he stuffed his hands into his pockets deeper, blue eyes instead focusing on a tree in the distance. Not even an interesting, oddly shaped tree, just a tree shaped like... A tree.

It was like there was someone inside them, telling them that they shouldn't do anything and just keep their distance.

Their silly, Toeto personalities, tucked deep into the emotions folder in their brain, shyly buried their heads further into their cat hats.

"L-listen, Neru-chan, I really want to tell you, but the words... T-they won't come out..." Visibly frustrated, he roughly messed up the dirt underneath him, the blocks of once solid dirt settling into powder.

"Maybe later I can tell you..." they mumbled together inaudibly. Soft breezes blew soft scents of fresh baked cookies and sweet perfumes by their noses.

On the inside didn't want to give up again, like the five million times before. They were too old to be stumbling over words like that, anyway.

"Len-kun, I l-"

"Oh, Len-kun!"

They quickly turned their heads to the source of the high pitched voice, watching as girl with bright blue hair quickly skipped towards them.

"Miku-chan, what are you doing here?" Len asked, obviously surprised by her presence. Silently, he cursed to himself. What was she going to say?

"Ah, Len-kun! There is a new ice cream place open by the mall! Want to go?" she asked excitedly, eyes flickering with excitement.

"C-could we go later?" he asked, trying not to sound overly hopeful. Neru, as awkward as it was, only turned away slightly, looking ready to bolt away with all her might if something unsavory were to happen.

"Oh, yeah, of course! I'll see you later then!" she left as quickly as she came, scrambling off to do something that the two couldn't have cared less about.

"You know, it's fine if we talk later, I wasn't going to say anything that important anyw-"

His thin arms, covered by his soft blue sweater that smelled of fabric softener and cherries, wrapped around her tiny figure tightly, the pleasing and sweet taste of her lip gloss only making his blush intensify. Overwhelmed greatly, she had no reaction at all to his sudden movement. It didn't last very long, much to their hidden disappointment. Breathless and red-faced, they stared at each other in silence.

"Ano...g-gomenasai, Neru-chan, I don't know what came over me." he apologized sheepishly, hiding his redder-than-tomato face.

"It's alright, d-don't worry about it." she waved it off shyly, the two dropping to their knees. Silence stung their ears.

"A-anyway, aren't you supposed to go get ice cream with Miku-chan?" Neru reminded him timidly, tugging on the sleeves of her loose brown sweater.

"I-I guess you're right." Stuttering seemed to be a pattern with them.

"Len?" He turned to look back to at her, her eyes hidden by her blonde hair.

"Yeah?" Hopefulness was much too evident in his voice.

"Have fun."

One day they'd get over their shyness.

One day their Toeto's would stop hiding under their cat hats.
