Chapter 1: Talking about a Guy.

Elizabeth Anne Summers, better known by her nickname of "Buffy" walked into the living room of her apartment in San Francisco to find Dawn trying to put on nail polish, and having a good degree of trouble doing so. It wasn't that Dawn was unfamiliar with the more womanly arts of physical beauty, it was just that it appeared to Buffy that her younger brunette sister was simply having a bad day "Maybe she's sleepy." Buffy thought to herself as she walked over and saw Dawn make yet another missed attempt with the nail polish and her glued-on nails, and from her kid sister's facial expression, she was desperately trying to get it right.

Buffy sat down across from her kid sister, looked at her for a moment, then said to her "Let me see that." Despite the command nature of this statement, Dawn understood that her sister wanted to help her get the nail problem straightened out.

Buffy dipped the brush from the nail polish bottle into the bottle, and as she applied the polish to her sister's nails, first on one hand then on the other, a topic came up between the Summers women for discussion, first occuring to the elder sister. "So, how's College- meet any cute guys?" she asked her with a smile.

This was Buffy's gambit of how to broach the subject of why Dawn was putting on nail polish, also, as the elder sibling, she felt an intense desire to protect her kid sibling from harm in any relationship- the best way to do so was to train Dawn to detect if harm would likely come from this relationship and to leave it to protect herself, or simply to make certain she was knowledgeable enough to detect that harm prior to it occuring.

"There are a few... Okay, this one guy I really like, but I don't know if he likes me yet." Dawn said, shrugging a bit, then asked "What about your relationships- you've been the Queen of disfunctional relationships for as long as I've known you." Dawn quickly turned the conversation back upon Buffy, and her blonde sister was taken aback a bit before answering.

When Buffy did answer, it was clear what her gamble was: if she couldn't be the wife in a family, she'd at least be a protective sister anyways! "Which is why I know something about abusive relationships, and I don't want my kid sister getting into one. I love you."

It was clear to Dawn now: Buffy didn't want her getting into abusive relationships!

"So, tell me about this guy who's grabbed my kid sister's heart. What's he like?" Buffy begged.

"He's nice, funny, sweet, and cute. His name's Robert, and we have at least two classes together..." Dawn continued, and Buffy was filled with a sort-of supportive envy, she was happy for Dawn, but envious that her sister had been the one with the stable relationships...
