Claudia Salinger placed her right hand on the railing of the staircase that led to the entrance of the church. She looked at her right hand, which was partially covered by a triangle of white fabric. The triangle was a part of a sleeve which was but a small part of her elegant wedding gown. It was a sight that made her become jittery with nervousness.
Do all brides feel like this on their wedding day?
Why was she suddenly so nervous? She had found the perfect man to marry. His name was Mark Baker. He was a copy editor for the local newspaper. They had dated for a year and a half before he popped the question. His family seemed so much better than hers, but that did not deter him.
The real reason was in Claudia's left hand. In her left hand she held a white violin and a bow. Her plan was to play the bridal chorus as she walked down the aisle, and Mendelssohn's Wedding March as they left the church. But in the past few weeks, she had not really had much time to practice. Her job as a software developer had meant a lot of late hours. However, her love for playing the violin had been with her for most of her life, and she wanted to surprise Mark and everyone else.
She took a slow, deep breath to calm herself and began to walk up the steps of the staircase. The long skirt of her dress and the inherent unsteadiness of her high heels ratcheted her anxiety level right back up again. She now wished she had picked high heels that were easier to walk in. Her steps were slow and methodical. Also, she was gripping the staircase more tightly than she had ever gripped a staircase before. The worst thing that could happen would be for her to fall. If she fell on these concrete stairs...
A gasp escaped her lips. There was a bee that had zoomed right up to her face. She recoiled in fear. And she lost her balance...
