That's what friends are for

If someone were mention to the young blonde currently seething on the couch that he looked angry he would tell them it was an understatement because at this point he was absolutely livid. His supposed best friend had ditched him after breakfast and he hadn't seen hide or hair of him since. That wasn't the only problem Mihael had been faced with so early in the morning. When he had gone to his room for a chocolate bar to gnaw on he discovered his stash, as well as the one in the pantry was vacant. An earsplitting scream had cut through the silence of the orphanage at that fact. As the blonde glared around the room he noticed a pair of obsidian eyes staring at him. "What do you want Near?"

The aforementioned began to twirl a lock of strikingly white hair around his pale finger. "Where's Matt?"

"'Dunno, he ditched me." the blonde replied, a tinge of hurt in his usually demanding voice.

"That doesn't sound like him." the younger replied catching the hurt in the others' tone.

Mihael huffed and cast his gaze to the floor dejectedly. "Well he did."

Nate slowly stood and cautiously walked over to the older boy. Making sure the blonde wouldn't act hastily, he sat next to him. "Mello, you and Matt are best friends I doubt that he would ditch you, he isn't that kind of person."

"I-I know but—" his voice cracked "why would he just disappear without telling me where he went?" he asked as tears slid down his cheeks. The blonde never cried, but here he was breaking down, and in front of his rival no less.

The white haired boy was shocked to see this side of his proud opponent and he wasn't sure he liked it. He was used to a loud, domineering, competitive Mihael. As he was about to try and comfort the boy he saw the goggle-clad face that was Mail Jeevas walking down the hall. "Matt." he whispered.

Mihael peered in the direction of Nate's line of sight at the mention of the gamers' name. Wide-eyed the blonde flew off the couch and down the hall without another word.

Mail heard the pounding of footsteps behind him and turned around. "M-Mello…why are you—" Before he could finish he was tackled to the ground in a hug.

"W-why'd you leave without telling me where you went?" the older boy asked, trepidation lacing his voice. "I thought you ditched me."

"I'd never bail on you Mell, you're my best friend." The red-head hugged the blonde back. "I didn't mean to make you worry but I thought you might want this" he said shaking the plastic grocery bag he had been carrying.

Curiously Mihael looked inside and what he saw made his heart melt. It was chocolate. "Y-you didn't have to." he said embarrassedly.

Mail smirked "Oh come on last time you ran out you acted like it was the end of the world."

The blonde flushed. "Thanks."

"Anytime, that's what friends are for."
