This isn't what I expected…she mused as her lips met another's in the darkness. Hands reached and gently pulled down the top of her kimono. Her breathing grew unsteady in anticipation of the cool hands she felt touching her back, and she could feel a blush on her cheeks.
It was an unusual feeling, and she wasn't entirely sure what to make of it. It was a feeling of release, being in the arms of the one whom she loved. It felt like… freedom.
"Hitsugaya?" Hinamori asked uncertainly. His eyes flickered open and he gazed down at her from where she was slumped against him, the sides of his mouth curving upward into a smile.
"Hm?"
"Wh- why did we take so long to see this?" she asked. "Why did we wait so long to…?"
"To say we love each other?" he finished for her, his voice gentle. He felt her nod slightly against his chest. He sighed. "I don't know." She smiled.
"Well, I'm glad we did." she told him.
"Yeah. Me too." he replied, kissing her forehead. She laughed slightly and wriggled a little in his arms, reaching to pull a blanket over them for warmth.
"So…" she began as she got comfortable again. "What happens now?"
They sat there for a few moments in silence, each enjoying the feeling of being near the other.
"The sun is coming up, and we'll have to get to our duties soon." Hitsugaya told her. He sighed. "I suppose… we take things slowly…" he murmured, staring into her eyes. It didn't seem possible, but Hitsugaya was sure her smile grew just a little bit more.
"Hm. Slowly." she agreed.
They fell asleep against each other for the hour or so left before sunrise, knowing that soon they would have to part for another day. But when they did dress and part, they parted with the knowledge that it would not be long before they were in each other's arms once more.
