Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter or anything related to it. It belongs to JKR. I just use her characters for fun, I don't earn anything.

A/N: It's a bit angsty and placed at the beginning of DH. In fact, it is my first Harry Potter fic in English so I ask for patience. Please, feel free to review every mistake you see. Thanks for reading.

ETERNAL

You close your eyes trying to catch sleep once again, tomorrow is an important day. Bill and Fleur's wedding and the beginning of your adventure. "Adventure" may not be the most appropriate term, it sounds too childish. Search seems more accurate. A search that looks more like a suicide, in fact. But you know that your negativity is not going to help you to fulfill your destiny, so you should drop it.

In the next bed, Ron is snoring loudly but you would be lying if you said that this is the reason for your lack of sleep. Although the nightmares about Cedric or Sirius have left you, you cannot sleep. And you know yourself enough to know that staying in bed won't make you sleep, so you decide to get up and say goodbye to the Burrow, as you did a few days ago in Privet Drive with your former house.

At night the house looks different. You can almost touch the peace that surrounds everything. That very thought causes you a shiver through your body. Because sometimes peace does not mean absence of war, sometimes only means death. The clock of the Weasleys, is now forgotten in the unstable table. You look again, and the "Danger of death" seems more dark, more frightening than ever.

And you remember the feeling that has been installed in you since the death of Dumbledore, since you saw the fear in the eyes of Draco Malfoy. You will not win the war; in fact, it is never going to end. Never. Although you would destroy the Horcruxes and kill Voldemort, although all the Death eaters would redeem theirselves… it won't be a victory. Because sooner or later, from that misnamed victory would emerge the hatred and that hatred would attack a vulnerable being, a child. Another kid who would suffer and would avenge his pain in the world, a new Tom Riddle. But every villain has his hero, probably there will be another kid who had suffered because of the actions of the first and will try to stop it at any price, a true Harry Potter

And so, history will repeat itself until the end of days. Good and bad, innocence destroyed and a forgotten child who cries in an orphanage, or in a cupboard, while nobody is looking.

You look at the sky completely covered with stars. But you can't feel hope anymore. Not when out there may be frightened Harry Potters or young Tom Riddles crying in the dark, with no one to be there to save them. Again, you curse the eternal and cruel war that no one except Voldemort and yourself will ever understand. And you get back to bed, with the hopeless feeling that there's nothing you can do to change it.
