How did he find him here? Henry turned around on his bar stool and faced Mr. Goodman.
"Someone's not old enough to be here." Dan muttered, sitting next to Henry and ordering a beer as Henry sipped his. "I want to talk to you, Henry."
"I don't want to talk anymore. Ever, about anything."
"I know what you mean. Like there's nothing else to live for. But you and I Henry, we're a lot like."
"Yeah we both drove the women we love to suicide."
"We always lived for other people. We gave up everything, and did everything, and put everything we had into keeping one person in our lives and making them happy. All I wanted to do was support Di, and I saw that in you – the way you stuck behind Natalie. But, not it's time to think of yourself." Henry glared at the bar counter. "You could do great things, kid. Go to college, accomplish something great – with..your music, or whatever else you'd want to do. Set some goals and live for yourself for once. I wish I had. And now it's too late for me, it's not for you."
"It is for her." Henry growled.
"Don't make it about her." Dan said gently. "That's the point. She's gone." Henry clenched his fist. "I wish she wasn't, but she is. And, you think you have nothing left? Henry you have an entire life ahead of you – school, a career, friends, hobbies, a family. I'm done, kid. Diana and Natalie…they were all I had left."
Henry looked at his girlfriend's father.
"And now you're all I have left." Dan said, putting a hand on Henry's shoulder. "You've been around a long time, and you helped her so much, and you made her so happy. You're a part of the family. Me and you. That's all that's left. And, I won't watch the only son I have left throw his life away. Especially when he has a future like I know you could have."
Henry gulped and quietly asked, "Son?" Dan sighed.
"You two…you two were going to be married someday." He said, and Henry smiled sadly. "Regardless of relations by blood or marriage, you're a good kid. And I know you have your own family troubles, and hopping along the Goodman bus doesn't seem much better."
Henry chuckled.
"I care about you, and your future. I care about you the way I cared…the way I cared for…for Gabriel. And I let go of him, and pushed him away – and I won't let that happen here. With you and me."
Henry sipped his beer. "Where do you go? From here?" He asked. Dan sighed.
"Forward."
