Change

The strike had happened so fast. One second she was running, her paws pounding against the floor as she raced to help her clan mate. The next, she was on the ground, blood pooling from her neck. Screams of shock followed, but no sound reached her ears. Instead, she just gazed into the sky, her eyes glazed over.

They say that when you die, your life flashes before your eyes. That is mostly true, although it's not every thing. It's your best and worst memories, all jumbled up until you're finally at peace. And as the she-cat lay, her life slowly bleeding away, many memories surfaced.

ooooo

The fire, burning around her, sending her black fur alight with flame. The fear in her blind brothers eyes, the shock in the others, and the anger that lay behind her. And then those five words that split her heart in two.

"They are not my kits."

ooooo

Red berries lay in her paws. Anger filled every vein in her body. This cat deserved to die. She was a liar, ruining her life with her desire to keep her reputation alive. If her mother didn't eat these berries, she was going to shove them down her throat.

ooooo

She recoiled in shock, realization crashing over her. She took a shaky step backwards, as if she couldn't believe it. No. NO! THIS WASN'T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN! It was supposed to be a warning, it wasn't supposed to end up this way. But yet here he was, his limp body floating through the river, blood slowly flowing from his neck. She turned away, fleeing into the forest, her bloodstained paws pounding against the ground.

ooooo

Her paws hit the ground, sending up dust as she ran. Tears flew from her eyes, but she knew what she was going to do. She heard them following her, but she payed no heed. When the tunnel entrance came into view, she only hesitated a moment before running inside, her brothers calling in after her. What she hadn't expected were the rocks that came tumbling in after her, but they helped. Soon the entrance was blocked by a pile of rocks, her body laying underneath them all.

ooooo

Meeting him was the best thing that could've happened. He saved her life, but did so much more than that. He showed her flaws, but also her perfections. He showed her who she really was. And who was she really? Just an ordinary cat. She'd spent her whole life under pressure for being more than that, but now she could breathe easy.

ooooo

After the two she-cats had left, she realized the ache in her heart. She missed Thunderclan, n matter how much she told her self not too. When she told him, he understood. And soon, the daylight was touching her pelt once more.

ooooo

Most cats were wary of her at first, all except for two. That didn't matter to her. Her brothers were there, and she could see teh familiar faces of her clanmates she had vowed to protect. She was crying now, a smile upon her face. She was finally home.

ooooo

Her eyes fluttered shut, a smile appearing on her lips. Her family was around her, sitting vigil while she died. Some were crying, while others just stood in shock. To her, that didn't matter. She had died a true warrior, and that's all that mattered to her.

Her life was full of ups and downs, but she wouldn't change it for the world.
