Prologue

Dew on the stubby, green grass glistened in the morning light. A black and white tom bounded out of the bushes in pursuit of a plump rabbit. True moor runner he was. Just then, a dark brown tabby tom erupted from the bush opening, scaring away Tallstar's rabbit. Tallstar's long tail lashed out, but he still dipped his head to the former ShadowClan leader. "Greetings, Raggedstar."

"Greetings to you too, Tallstar." Raggedstar padded up, yellow eyes gleaming.

A rustle from the opening of the bushes distracted the two toms. Runningnose padded through. "Tallstar." He dipped his head respectively. Leopardstar erupted from the bushes, followed by Bluestar and Yellowfang. The cats dipped heads and greeted each other. Bluestar spoke up:

"I have received a prophecy."

Tallstar sat down and curled his tail over his paws. "Go on."

Bluestar continued. "Two sisters of wind and water will save the Clans from the battle of the river."

Raggedstar lashed his tail but didn't speak. He clearly was jealous of the blue furred she-cats knowing of the prophecy.

"I have heard the prophecy too"

Raggedstar whipped around to see his former medicine cat. "And you haven't chose to tell me?!"

"I didn't know you were interested," Runningnose replied bleakly, staring into Raggedstar's burning eyes, neck fur bristling.

"Watch it, Runningnose." Raggedstar growled. "I wouldn't pick a fight with me." Raggedstar's threat rang with power

"You aren't in charge of me, Raggedstar," Runningnose growled. "We're in StarClan now. No cat controls another. Leader or not."

Raggedstar's claws unsheathed. "Filthy medicine cat!" he mumbled.

Runningnose stood his ground.

Bluestar and Leopardstar leaped into the middles of the two fighting toms. "Enough!" Leopardstar hissed. "You two are acting like territorial kits!"

Raggedstar hissed and leaped onto Leopardstar. Runningnose shrieked and backed up. Tallstar stunned as well, joined Bluestar to pull Raggedstar off of Leopardstar. Raggedstar sunk his claws and teeth into Leopardstar's pelt. Leopardstar caterwauled and started ripping Raggedstar's fur off with her hind legs. Bluestar took a swipe at Raggedstar's neck and succeeded. He backed off as blood trickled from his throat. "Please stop," Bluestar pleaded. "Look how irresponsible we are acting."

Raggedstar looked down, eyes ablaze, giving his chest fur a couple of embarrassed licks. Leopardstar rose to her paws. Clumps of fur were ripped off and sticking out at different spots, her one ear was torn, and blood wept from the scratches Raggedstar had dealt on various parts of her body. Her eyes were filled with shock and fury. "Very well," her voice shook. "A powerful prophecy is playing down. We must stay out of it."

Yellowfang huffed. "Very well."

"Yes, I agree," Runningnose meowed.

"I agree as well," Bluestar announced. "If it's the way to protect the Clans."

"I suppose so," Raggedstar growled, still filled with frustration.

"I speak the same mind," Tallstar meowed, apparently still shocked.

"StarClan has decided!" Leopardstar yowled.

And one by one, led by Raggedstar, the StarClan cats padded out of the bush opening.
