Drabble – Age
Alexander was sprawled out on the soft grass not far from the tents that made up his army. Beside him was Hephaestion. Both men had their heads resting on one of their arms. The day was warm and a gentle breeze waved through the air.
"Alexander?"
"Hum?"
"If you could be any age again, when would you choose to be?"
Alexander's eyebrows furled a little as he contemplated an answer. "Is this a trick question?"
"No, not at all. I just wondered which age you have enjoyed the most. Or maybe an age you would prefer to live again."
"Well, I wouldn't want to live me childhood again, too many bad memories that I would prefer not to revisit. Maybe when a certain young boy came to my palace with his father."
Hephaestion grinned, "You had a thing for Cassander? Really, I didn't know that."
Alexander rolled his eyes at his friend.
"Wait, maybe it was when I got to know this beautiful boy better and we became very close."
"You really think Cassander is beautiful? I guess I never really thought about it, he's not bad."
"Hephaestion!"
"Aye?"
"I'm not talking about Cassander and you know it."
By this time Hephaestion was laughing out loud.
"No, I change my mind, it was when I first made love to the most amazing man I had ever met."
"You made love to Cass…."
Hephaestion's words were stopped suddenly as his lips were attacked before he could finish his sentence. Every time the lips moved away and he started to say something they were again covered with sweet kisses. As if that wasn't enough, roaming hands soon came into play and he soon lost his train of thought entirely. He gave up and let his body do the talking.
A little later they were back in the same positions as they were before. Nothing had been said for a while as their bodies settled back down from romping in the grass.
"So what did you decide, my King? What is your favorite age?"
Alexander rolled on his side and stretched out facing Hephaestion. He looked at his long hair with the scattering of leaves and grass adorning it, his eyes so full of love and mischief, his tanned skin glistening in the sunlight and his long legs and thighs bent at the knees.
"I have enjoyed all of the years that have you in my life. I wouldn't trade any of them good or bad, as long as you are beside me."
Hephaestion gave Alexander one of his very special smiles, the ones that made Alexander's toes curl.
"Are you sure?"
"What do you mean?"
"Are you really sure it is me you want in your life and not beautiful Cassander?" Hephaestion said, grinning more with each word.
Alexander groaned and started for him but was not fast enough as Hephaestion took off with his king in pursuit.
"What do you suppose happened now?" Cassander said as he watched them fly by.
