Chapter 1: Introduction.
My name is Lily DeWitt Bukater, I am 18 years of age. My mothers name Is Ruth, and my father well we lost him to leukemia about a year ago. Today we are boarding the "grandest ship" in the world, TITANIC. For this past six months, my life has been hell. At the age of only 17 and a half I got engaged. Your wedding should be a joyous event but for me it isn't. It was arranged by my mother because she is afraid of becoming penniless since father left us in debts after his passing. This trip to America is a trip carrying me back to America in chains.
