The moon was hiding upon the hour of darkness and the stars that accompanied the bright lady escaped with her for the night sky was nothing more than an eternal stretch of black. The isolated town slumbered quietly to the eerie silence as it has done many of years before, with the exception of a little inn room with ceiling lights flickering every few moments and the sound of a single insect buzzing as it contemplated on how to lunge itself into the illumination. But tonight inside this shoddy inn room, the usual silence was slowly being intruded on. A boy beneath a single sheet twisted and turned in bed, sweat passing his golden crown and downward. But it was strange for he to be so uncomfortable. From his lips he uttered and stammered, trying to repeat a name that would not fully allow itself to be vocalized. "K-k…kon…konz…"
Be it any other scenario, a snore or such, than his standard roommate would have done the usual deed of beating the boy senseless until the redhead was satisfied. But Gojyo sensed the peculiar atmosphere that slowly suffocated the room. Half naked with nothing more than his jeans, the man of scarlet stood from his bed and made his way over to his companion, every step creaking atop the wood floors, his worry only making the situation more daunting. But as he approached the legs of the golden boy, he stiffed to the sound of rushed tapping outside the door but allowing a smirk to crack the line of his lips, knowing all too well who was about to make their appearance.
Walking past the man who ran in, Gojyo quickly headed out the door. He chose not to stand and on look a scene he had already witnessed countless times before. He only heard the poorly hidden worry in Sanzo's voice, every sharp, whispered demand to wake Goku slowly fading by each corner turned until the silence of the night was finally retuned to Gojyo's ears. But silence came and went with a simple farewell. "I suppose I'm going to have to share my bed with you tonight, Gojyo?"
He met a pair of emerald eyes, concerned or casual he chose not to distinguish. Gojyo only rested his arms over the shoulder of his friend and with a sigh replied, "Man, Hakkai, you say that like you're not happy." The two entered the room adjacent to that of Goku's and slowly closed the door behind them, leaving little dialogue for any fly to hear. If the insects in this murky inn had not already lunged themselves to their deaths against the blinding lights then they would of heard, and perhaps would have quivered to, the scarlet man's dirty adieu to the silent night as he crawled into the bed of his calm friend. The next morning would follow as customary: Life goes on without any strange recollection of the past. No one questioning why Gojyo and Sanzo switched rooms, no one prying into whatever reason Goku was in such a panic, and Goku realizing not that he even had a fright. But isn't it better this way? Beneath a blue sky, there is more merit in smiling.
The End.
Author's notes:
Super short story I wrote because I wanted to get back in touch with my fan fiction writing seeing as how it's been about a year since I've written anything; roleplay aside. If you have a critique, I'll kindly accept it, but having that said, I hope you're not analyzing my writing just to find something to harshly comment upon. With this story, I desire you enjoy the beauty of unusual normality. Thank you for reading; reviews appreciated. And also, excuse my babbling but I must exclaim, one more week until winter vacation!! Damn high school is almost over with.
