A/N: I'm so sorry that I haven't been able to update One Summer Ago. A lot of things have happened and it just seems like I ever had time. Anyway, I'm tyring to finish the story and right now I'm editing it. So the next chapter should be up in about a week or two. Again, I'm really sorry about taking so long on OSA. In the meanwhile, this was something that just came to me one day. So enjoy it!

Summary: He went off to fight the day after they were engaged. It broke her heart to hear that he died in combat. But a miracle happened – he came back from the dead.

She was standing in her cozy meeting room trying to organize papers for tomorrow's big merger. Oh yeah, she was trying to dodge her co-worker too.

"Urgh… what doesn't Milton get? I don't want to date him. It's that simple," she muttered to herself. Suddenly, the door behind her opened and she turned around. Someone was standing in the doorway with a shadow right over them.

"Brie?" the man inquired with concern laced in is voice.

The voice sounded very familiar – like her dead fiancé. No, it can't be, she thought. Then the person stepped forward. She couldn't believe her eyes. She blinked twice and yet the image before her didn't fade. It was her dead fiancé - Troy Bolton. The next thing she knew, she felt like she was falling. Then everything went black.

"Brie? Baby, wake up please," the deep voice pleaded. Her eyes flutter open and her vision was blurry for a second. Her face was etched with confusion as she studied the face before her. His chiseled features were the same as a year ago. His dazzling blue eyes and dirty blonde hair gave her a sense of comfort, and his strong arms felt good around her. Yes, this was Troy Bolton staring her in the face.

"Troy?" she asked in a trembling voice.

"Gabriella," he sighed with relief, "I thought I was going to have to take you to the hospital. Is everything okay? Are you okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine," Gabriella answered as she struggled to get up.

"Is this real?" she asked as if she was afraid of the answer.

"Yes," he chuckled as he embraced her in a hug, "I'm here. I'm alive."

They released each other and Gabriella asked as her voice cracked, "Bu…..but, they said you were dead. They sent your dog tags an...and I didn't believe it bu..but then we had a funeral an…an...and…"

"I was held prisoner," he explained, "They released me a week ago."

He pulled her closer and whispered in her ear, "I'm glad you never gave up hope." He grabbed her left hand and touched her silver engagement ring set with a princess cut flanked by sapphires and diamonds.

"And I see you're still wearing it." By now Gabriella had tears rolling down her cheeks and was sobbing quietly.

"Hey… shhh… It's alright now," Troy comforted, "I'm here."

"Please don't let them take you again. Please… don't."

"I won't."

"Promise me."

Troy looked into Gabriella's tearful eyes and felt his heart clench.

I promise. I'll always be here."
