Here's a little poem/songfic my friend wrote to go with the ending to Merlin she made up. When Merlin sacrifices himself to protect Arthur from an attack that would have otherwise killed the prince, Merlin's days become numbered. However, his duty to protect Arthur until he becomes king of Camelot has not yet been complete. The Great Dragon gives Merlin just enough life to see his friend rise to the throne...but when that day finally comes, Merlin's borrowed days finally come to an end as well. This is the song, if you will, that I wrote to go with the sad ending to such a great legend. *NOTE* Best read with some sort of sad instrumental piece - preferable a soft piano/guitar duet.
All credit for this song goes to K. Carter. I'm only posting it on here because she has no account.
Neither me or her own anything of Merlin!
Enjoy!
When I see you standing there, smiling with her
it's nice to know it is a new day for you…
I am happy to see that the sun is finally rising
on the dawn of a new age for everyone.
It has been a long road, getting here,
and I have been with you through and through.
Oh, we've had our fair share of fights…
No, this road has never been an easy one.
But now that we're here,
at the beginning of a new time,
I regret to tell you
that this journey is over…for me.
Once goodbyes have been said,
I must lay down my head,
but when I am gone
don't you dare shed a tear.
We had plenty of laughs,
and I will always, always
carry those fond memories
with me.
I remember a time
when I knew you,
but you couldn't know me…
and it's almost ironic…
For now the words have been said,
and you finally know me for who I am,
I must rest my weary head.
For this journey is over…for me.
Don't worry,
I believe in you.
And though you cannot see me,
I will forever be by your side.
Remember what I taught you,
and all that we learned
from each other,
and I know that you will go far.
Now before I go to sleep,
I would like to thank you
for all these years,
and promise me you'll never change.
Stay just and true
to your heart,
for I know it is
a kind one.
And though I wish I could stay and see
this world you will create…
I have played my part…
alas, this journey is over…for me.
