The New Boy: Part 1
Clary's POV:
"You did pretty well for your first time!" Jace told me as we were walking into the institute. Jace had called me early this morning and told me that since training was called off for the day, we would go find our own action.
"Yeah, well. I didn't do much of the work. If it weren't for you I probably would have been a demon snack." I laughed.
"Well just remember, you, along with all the other shadow hunters, can't all be as talented as I am." He smirked, kissing me on top of my head.
"Where is everyone?" I asked. "It usually isn't this quiet around here."
"By the angel I hope Isabelle hasn't poisoned any one with her disgusting cooking." Jace joked. Well who knows, he might have been serious.
We walked down the long corridor and came to the door of the library. Even if Isabelle and Alec weren't in there Hodge definitely would be. He basically lived in there. Jace opened the door with a loud squeak and automatically all eyes were on us. We saw Hodge, Isabelle, Alec and the Silent Brothers all surrounding the big chair by the fire place. In the chair was a boy about our age. "He looks so familiar! Where have I seen him before?" He was tall and a little on the bigger side. He had short brown hair, and torn up clothes.
"What happened here?" Jace asked in alarm. "Who is this mundane?"
"Jace, Clary, this is Matthew. We got a call from the Clave this morning saying a demon attacked his home here in Brooklyn while you two were out lollygagging. We headed over to his home and found furniture in pieces, blood everywhere, and him with a dead Ragnor demon on top of him. He will be staying at the institute until we finish investigating his home and find his parents." Hodge explained.
"Find his parents?" I asked.
"Yes. Matthew told us that he was upstairs when he heard screaming. He ran downstairs and his parents were gone. That's when the demon busted through the door and attacked him." Hodge explained.
"What would the demon want with his parents? They are just a mundane family." Alec asked after being silent for so long.
"I'm not sure, that is what we have to find out." Hodge said getting frustrated.
"Well how long will that take?" Jace asked impatiently. "He isn't even a shadow hunter!" he went on. "Mundane's aren't allowed to stay in the institute unless-" he was cut off.
"They have permission from the clave. And in this case, we do." Hodge finished.
"He will be staying here as long as needed and he will be treated with respect. Am I clear?" He looked from shadow hunter to shadow hunter with his eyebrows raised, looking at Jace longer than anyone else.
"Yes." We all mumbled.
"Perfect! Now please excuse me children while I escort the Silent Brothers out. Introduce yourselves to Matthew and make him feel at home. Well as much at home as possible." Hodge said politely walking out the door.
We turned around and looked at the boy who had been sitting quietly in the chair this whole time.
"Awkward.." Jace said.
Alec punched him in the arm.
"Hi, I'm Alec Lightwood. It's very nice to meet you. This is my sister Isabelle, our brother Jace and our friend Clarrisa Fr-"
"So this is where you disappeared to Clary? Of into 'Magical Fairy Land.'" Matthew said standing up and embracing me into a hug, leaving the others wide eyed and me shocked as well. "Oh my gosh. I remember now! He has changed so much in two years!"
"You know him?" Jace asked with a tone of jealousy in his voice.
"Yeah! We went to school together. She was my girlfriend." Matthew grinned putting his arm around me.
