Chapter One:
Jack stared longingly out of the window, gently sighing to himself. He hadn't been on a date for 3 DAYS, and he was still waiting for his last guy to call back. He jumped at the sound of the phone ringing.
"Hello, house of the queer, what can I do you for?"
" Hey Poodle" was the reply.
"Oh, it's u", he said, a despairing look across his face.
" Why honey, don't feel down, it's not Grace, it's me."
"I know tha.." Jack started, but quickly stopped. "Anyway, what did you call me for?
"Oh, honey, I was just bored, you know all this work..."
On Karen's end of the phone, Grace shouts..
"Karen you don't work, You just sit there doin' your nails and drinking cups of . who KNOWS what."
" (To Grace) Yeah, Yeah. (To Jack) Anyway, enough about me, you don't seem too happy. Spread the news, spread the news."
"Oh Karen, I'm so upset, I need a guy!"
"Hey, what happened to Jon?"
"Too fat"
"Paul?.."
"He had big feet"
"O.K, well what about David? I was sure he was the one."
"Nah, his eyes sparkled too much."
" Aw, well I'm sure you'll meet the right guy soon. Anywhoo, I gotta go, I've got a lunch with my name on it."
"But Karen, it's only 9.30"
" Exactly, I'm already 5 minutes late, o.k bye"
Karen hangs up
LATER ON, BACK AT GRACE ADLER DESIGNS
Grace is working on a design for a client's bedroom. Karen is sitting at her desk, linking paperclips together.
Grace: "What colour do you reckon would go better with periwinkle blue? Mauve or Magnolia?"
Karen: "What?? Honey, how am I supposed to know?"
Grace: "I am just asking your advice."
Karen: "Again, what??"
Grace: "Advice? You know, your opinion?"
Karen: "Oh yeah." Brief pause "Opinion on what?" Grace: "Arrrggghhh!! You know what? It doesn't matter. Forget I said anything."
Karen: "No, seriously, what?
Grace (now v.annoyed): "Don't you have something to do like, make cruel comments, or laugh at someone's misfortune or something?"
Karen: "Now that you come to mention it, I was talking to Jack on the phone this morning and he did seem a little down." Grace: "Why? What was wrong?" Karen: "Oh, you know. He's all alone in the world, still hasn't found the one yeah, yeah." Grace: "Karen! You do know that Jack may be really hurting inside don't you?" Karen: "Yeah, I know. Funny isn't it?" Grace: "NO Karen it's not. Now you may not care about Jack but I do. Take all my calls." Grace Exits. Karen: "Yeah whatever." BACK AT WILLS APARTMENT There is a knock at the door. Jack: "Come in if your thin and sexy!" Grace: "Oh. I'd better stay outside then." Jack: "Oh its only you Grace. Come in." Grace: "Who were you expecting?" Jack: (sighs) "The love of my life" Grace: "You've met someone?" Jack: "No. Just waitin for the right guy so we can get married and adopt 2kids called Meesha and Miika." Grace: "What? Ok, never mind." Jack: "So, what did you come over for, aren't you meant to be at work?" Grace: "Yeah, I was getting fed up of Karen's annoying laughter." Jack: "Hey, don't dis my girl." Grace: "So are you feelin ok?" Jack: "Yeah" Grace: "Are you sure?" Jack: "Actually, I could do with some new gossip to cheer me up a little." Grace: " OK, so who do you want the lo-down on first." Jack: "Hmm, let me see.." Both Together: "Will."
