It happened all in a matter of seconds. Too quickly for his mind to grasp onto what was happening. Too quickly for him to move his feet just a few step to the left and push her out of the way. All there was, was a loud bang, and some smoke coming from the object in the mans hand. The man dropped the object; the gun. And starts to back away.
But Levi didn't care about the man standing across the way, he only cared about the one who was next to him, slowly falling to the ground. He reaches over and catches her, holding her in his arms as he stared, wide-eyed, at the blood that was pouring out of her chest, tears wanting to fall, but never appearing.
Petra, laying in his arms, too stunned to react, looked up at him, her eyes almost begging him to help her, even when she knew he couldn't.
Levi frantically took off his jacket, trying to stop the bleeding, "It's going to be alright... Everything is going to be alright, okay? You're going to be alright..." Even as he spoke those simple words, he had a hard time convincing himself that the words he was speaking were true.
"Levi... Why can't you just kiss it all better? Like the paper cut I got the other night... I'm not ready to go..." Tears were falling freely from her honey-colored eyes, down her now pale cheeks.
"I could have stopped it... I could've done something..." Levi shook as he kept trying to stop the blood the best he could.
"It's not your fault, Levi... You didn't know..." Petra smiled the best she could, but soon began to cough up blood. "I love you Levi..." Her eyes slowly closed, as the smile faded off her face, and her breathing nearly ceased.
"No! You're going to be alright! Everything is going to be alright!" Levi's eyes were now filled to the brim with tears and he wanted nothing more than the words he said to be true. But they weren't. Now, the soft, smooth skin that Levi would touch and kiss every day, was gray and dry. The heartbeat that he would listen to every night before he fell asleep, was now silent. And the beautiful eyes that he would wake up to every morning, were forever closed.
And at that moment in time, something snapped in him. He looked down at her lifeless body, and covered his jacket over her face, not having the heart to look at her, cold and empty, anymore. He stood up and walked towards the gun, picking it up. He saw that there was still another bullet and cocked the gun. The man, who was still standing there, too shocked by what he had done, snapped back to reality when he heard the gun make the sound that signaled it was loaded, and started to run away.
Levi aimed the gun, quickly pulling the trigger without a second thought, and the man fell to the ground.
Now, Levi sits in the cell of a prison. The same prison he has been sitting in since 5 months ago, when the love of his life was shot before his eyes, to serve his 25 years to life sentence. He didn't cry anymore though. He never even glared at anyone. He found no point in emotions anymore, and his brain completely shut down, turning him emotionless.
In cell number 356, prisoner number 402491, Levi Ackerman, sat on his bed, wishing that he could have kissed it all better.
