Gajeel grumbled as yet another store turned out to be sold out of roses. He hated holidays, for this exact reason -present shopping. Turning away he didn't acknowledge the florist trying his best to make an alternative sale.

Valentine's Day was always unnecessary, overrated drama that the dragonslayer was more than happy to avoid; never in his life did he expect it to be this stressful. After nearly getting into fisticuffs with a nerd over a book (the last thing he envisioned himself ever doing), his patience was at its end.

Walking back to the street Gajeel kicked a stray rock on the ground with his hands in his pockets. Brow furrowing with a deeper scowl Elfman's voice came to his head. A real man gets roses.

The innocent rock went flying upon being kicked out of the atmosphere. Everyday he questioned what made Levy like him, more so how he even found this miracle of a woman to begin with. A pang began in his chest as disappointment set in. She deserved there was, no exceptions.

Gajeel's thoughts were interrupted by the deafening sound of a jackhammer. Along the side of the street was a construction site, it's business no doubt in full boom because of their Guild. His gaze went to the litter of iron rods strewn about the area.

The corners of his lips began to curl upwards.

Levy huffed an irritated sigh as she did her best to straighten out her hastily put on outfit. The job for the day had been unforgiving, not only taking her whole day but causing her to be late as well. She scarcely had the time to return home and make herself look somewhat like she was about to go on a date.

However any anger she had dissipated at the sight of Gajeel waiting at the place they had agreed upon meeting. A tinge of pink couldn't help but appear on her cheeks. Their first time celebrating the holiday together making her a bundle of nerves. Gajeel seemed to be the same.

"I know they ain't the same but… I did my best to get 'ya some roses Lev." He said, right arm moving from behind his back.

"Oh Gajeel it's okay! Don't worry about thing like th-" Her words were cut off by the present now before her. Instead of a flowery scent it smelled of metal, their vibrant colors replace by a dull grey. They weren't your average roses.

For these were crafted out of iron.

Levy stared at them speechless. Each petal she could see was carefully sculpted, not one looking alike with the uniqueness of a handmade item. Her hands took them gingerly as though they were glass; when in reality they could be used as a decorative club.

"Gajeel.." She breathed, unable to find words. Having her eyes being transfixed on the most meaningful bouquet she had ever been given the dragonslayer rummaged through the inside of his coat with a little more confidence.

"Here's your present, happy Valentine's Day Lev." Gajeel tensed at seeing the sudden emotion that came over her. Is she sad? Why was she upset? Mentally he started kicking himself, hundreds of ways of what he did wrong going through his mind.

Until her little arms wrapped around his torso, burying her head in his chest.

"Oh Gajeel I love them! Really this is too much you didn't have to!" At that gajeel smiled knowing that he had met his goal in satisfaction

"Only the best for my girl." He lean down and cooed in her ear. The outline of her smile pressing against his shirt. He put the book back in its pocket for now. Kissing the top of her forehead he added, "Shall we go on that date then?"

Levy grinned with a broad smile and nodded her agreement, holding the iron roses close to her heart with her other hand in his.

Maybe Valentine's Day was a great holiday after all.
